1:50 Newmarket – Weatherbys With Venatour Racing Handicap (Class 2) (4yo+ 0-100) – Ararat 33/1 0.5pt EW 4 places

Front runners dominated this meeting last year and in a race that is largely lacking early pace, ARARAT can fare well if coming on for his Kempton outing last month. That was his debut for Robert Cowell, and he didn’t appear to take to the right-handed nature of the track from his wide berth in a race that was dominated by the tear away leader Habooba.

All three of his wins have come when making all, including on the Rowley mile over seven furlongs and his previous visit here saw him beaten three lengths behind Quinault in a 6F handicap that worked out incredibly well. He came on for his reappearance last term when a length second on the July course behind the well backed Metaverse, and he’s largely unexposed at six furlongs with his record at the distance reading 2255.

While he doesn’t appear to be the most straight forward, the switch to Robert Cowell’s yard can only be a positive regarding sprinting trips, and a combination of second bottom weight along with race fitness can see him outrun his outsider’s odds for the in-form yard.

2:25 Newmarket – Feilden Stakes (Listed Race) (Class 1) (3yo) – Last Galileo 40/1 0.5pt EW 3 places

Karl Burke and Clifford Lee had Caviar Heights finished third in this race last season and LAST GALILEO makes some each way appeal with that in mind. The £200,000 son of Galileo wasn’t seen until September as a two-year-old, and failed to justify favouritism on debut at Redcar with the winner favoured by his pitch along the rail. The winner had previously bumped into Stanhope Gardens on debut, and Last Galileo went one better at Ayr next time out when lowering the colours of the well backed favourite in game fashion, drawing away at the line.

He undoubtedly has to improve on his two year old form to take this, but he strikes me as the type to improve as a three year old as did one of his full brothers in Delphi, who was beaten eighteen lengths on his sole two-year-old start prior to going 4/4 as a three year old, culminating with a Group 3 win. He’ll be a likely pace angle, and the yard have already hit the ground running with their horses on turf this season.

3:35 Newmarket – Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies) (Class 1) (3yo) – Remaat 14/1 1pt EW 3 places

REMAAT appeared to inherit his dam’s stamina as opposed to his sire’s speed last season, having looked outpaced over ve furlongs on debut prior to keeping on over six furlongs at Kempton next time out, beaten a length into second by Tales Of The Heart who franked the form on his next three starts, beaten a length the subsequent G2 Lowther winner Celandine and beaten 3/4L by Simmering in the G3 Princess Margaret Stakes.

Remaat opened her account at the third time of asking when a four length winner of a maiden on the July course having comfortably made all. She evidently didn’t beat much with the Godolphin favourite bombing out and the second was only rated 78, but it was visually impressive under hands and heels and the last two winners of that maiden both finished runner up in the Nell Gwyn.
