Sam Turner's Best Bets BlogSALOUEN (Epsom, 3.10) looked as good as ever at Ascot on his comeback and could improve on his agonising defeat at the hands of Cracksman in this event 12 months ago.

The selection acquitted himself well in the 2017 Derby despite being knocked over at a crucial stage and his affinity for the track could be a useful asset today. It is fair to say the five-year-old hasn’t enjoyed a lot of luck in his career to date given he also suffered an interrupted passage in last October’s Arc, but he could reward an each-way bet here, even with the likes of Kew Gardens and Lah Ti Dar in opposition.

Salouen 1pt ew @ 7-1

MOUNTAIN ANGEL (Epsom, 3.45) is following the same career path as last year’s winner Ajman King having won at the April meeting here before tackling this event.

He earned a 5lb rise for his emphatic win five weeks ago and looks nicely drawn to deliver another big performance.

Mountain Angel 1pt ew 4-1

Veteran Scottish rider Rab Havlin has the opportunity to record a landmark Group 1 success when MEHDAAYIH (Epsom, 4.30) goes for gold in today’s Investec Oaks.

Those who play close attention to the clock will have noted the fine sectional time posted by the selection who finished off the last two furlongs of her race in a similar time to the useful five-furlong sprinters on the card.

Of course, this afternoon’s race demands that the daughter of Frankel improve again, but if Havlin can conserve her energy and harness her acceleration, she may be difficult to resist late on.

Mehdaayih 2pt win 3-1

Mountain Angel is half of your Daily Double for Friday.
