Sam Turner's Best Bets BlogFOOLAAD (Newcastle, nap, 5.15) boasts a decent record when fresh and this time last year was in the process of rattling up an impressive five-timer.

It was a tremendous sequence by Roy Bowring’s sprinter which started just after Christmas and ended in May. In that period he mopped up four races at Southwell and capped it with a turf victory at Pontefract before coming unstuck in an £18,500 York handicap.

The previous year, the selection landed a brace here at Newcastle and returns for the first time since a strong-finishing defeat of Espresso Freddo over 7f. He drops back to the minimum distance today but has done most of his winning over 5f since and the yard’s sprinters are in decent form

PAPARAZZI (Newcastle, nb, 4.10) was a good winner in a strong time last week when quickening smartly in a competitive if modest handicap over course and distance. The handicapper no doubt will react harshly but in the meantime the four-year-old is fancied to shrug off a 6lb penalty.

STEPS AND STAIRS (Bangor, 1.40) rates a cut above the field and, with the stable enjoying double success on Monday, looks to have a major shout. The lightly-raced nine-year old boasts three of the best four figures in this contest and is seriously knocking at the door.

Steps And Stairs is part of GG's Daily Double for Tuesday.
