SamTurnerMAYBRIDE (Newmarket, 1.50) is thought of as a potential Listed-winning filly this season and gets her chance to show her class in the opener at Headquarters on Thursday.

It may have taken her until the last run off the season to get off the mark but Maybride had posted some fine efforts in defeat including when beaten three lengths in the valuable Recdar Two-Year-old Trophy, staying on well from too far off the fast pace. No problems next time though as she was given a much more positive ride to take up the running in the final furlong and score in a decent time for the conditions.

The selection looks well handicapped off a mark of 86 and she’ll be expected to hit the mark today and then target some black type.

Le Brivido is a class act but may have bigger fish to fry in the Lockinge next month and the trip is a slight concern against crack sprinters. Under the circumstance, preference is for BRANDO (Newmarket, 3.00) as he boasts a record since being gelded and when rested for more than 50 days of 1113, with the only defeat at the hands of Harry Angel in the July Cup.

His stable won with a first time out sprinter on day one of the meeting and he could be ready to go following a wind op.

THE BAY BIRCH (Cheltenham, 2.40) is in the form of her life at the moment and thriving for being ridden patiently. The seven-year-old mare switches off well in her races and boasts a high cruising speed, so can hopefully make an impact upped in class with both trainer and jockey in hot form at the moment.
