With nearly £600k on offer for the winner, the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes is one of the most coveted races on the Royal Ascot schedule and the 2025 renewal on Wednesday 18th June, 2025 looks to be a hugely competitive renewal. A field of nine is set to line up in the 1m 1f 212y contest and our tipster Steve Chambers picks out his 1-2-3 for the Group 1 middle distance showpiece.

Favourites
With five wins in this race, Aidan O’Brien is one of the most successful trainers in the race’s history and he will saddle the heavily fancied Los Angeles, who warmed up for this race with a victory over the Owen Burrows-trained Anmaat in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh. The pair served up a thrilling finish with the Ballydoyle raider prevailing and they are set for another epic battle in this contest on Wednesday afternoon at 4:20pm.
Both prominent in the betting, Los Angeles has shown throughout his career that he’s a class act and the 2024 Irish Derby winner is set to be a key contender for more top class glory here. Now seven years old, Anmaat grabbed his biggest win to date at Ascot at the end of last season when winning the Champion Stakes at 40/1. Looking to replicate that on his return to the Berkshire track, the Burrows raider is sure to be a thorn in the side of Los Angeles once again.
Supplemented for this race earlier in the month was See The Fire, who bounded to an emphatic 12-length win in the Middleton Stakes at York in one of the most dominant performances seen on the track this season. Andrew Balding’s filly will need to continue her improvement now taking on the boys at the highest level, but the manner in which she beat her rivals that day suggests she’s entitled to take her chance here.
Francis-Henri Graffard’s Map Of Stars adds a European flavour to the race and is looking to become the first French-trained horse to win this since Byword in 2011. Last seen finishing a fine second in the Prix Ganay at Longchamp, the four-year-old son of Sea The Stars had previously won a brace of Group 2 and Group 3 races. A real classy middle-distance performer that has shown he’s in the form of his life, Map Of Stars is another worthy of respect towards the head of the market.

Outsiders
Charlie Appleby’s Ombudsman lost his unbeaten record last time out when second in the Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown Park, where he was beaten by Almaqam. Prior to that he’d tasted Group success amongst his four wins, so is one that has to be deemed a lively challenger to those shorter in the betting, but he will need to improve on that Sandown run now taking on better horses.
Sixth in the Queen Anne Stakes last season, Facteur Cheval steps up in trip this time around and having landed a Group 1 in Meydan over a similar trip has to be a potential each-way play for punters. Jerome Reynier’s six-year-old has been dining at the top table for several seasons now, but can often find a few too good, so that’s why he’s available at double-figured prices.
A winner of the Wolferton Stakes at Royal Ascot earlier in his career, Royal Champion has struggled to kick on from that 2023 success and looks up against here, while Continuous is the second shot fired by Ballydoyle, but he will be on pacemaking duties for Los Angeles. Certain Lad completes the line-up and is another that looks potentially out of his depth here.

2025 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes Tips
All eyes will be on the battle between Los Angeles and Anmaat and while the former can frank the Tattersalls Gold Cup form in this contest, the pair of them could be beaten by MAP OF STARS, who has been in the form of his life can down the pair of them here. See The Fire is one that has caught the eye this season and a repeat of her York run could see her chase home on the French raider.
