Morning Vicar (Kempton, 2.40)

On a truncated day, MORNING VICAR stands out in the feature at Kempton, particularly with Nicky Henderson having such a fine time of it over the last few days.

The selection - who has won two of his six starts - scored in workmanlike fashion at Ludlow last February but was very disappointing next time at Newbury. Fancied to build on the Ludlow success, he went out like a light heading to the second last and finished badly adrift. Clearly that was unexpected and a 234-day layoff was the result.

Morning Vicar now returns to the fray and, with the chance to strengthen up, should be a different proposition from his powerful yard.

Midnight Shadow (Carisle, 2.30)

MIDNIGHT SHADOW is a fine horse on his day and landed the Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr in 2018 with a tremendous battling performance in an exciting finish.

Proving that was no fluke, he has since added two more decent races to the cv, including the Relkeel Hurdle at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day. The Cleeve Hurdle back at Prestbury Park next time over three miles proved a race too much and that was that for the season.

The six-year-old has now embarked on a chasing career and shaped with promise when given a nice introduction to fences in a fast-run Carlisle beginner’s chase 18 days ago. Weak in the market he understandably tired at the business end of the race.

He should be a different proposition on Monday.

MORNING VICAR (Kempton, 2.40) 2pt win @ 4-1

MIDNIGHT SHADOW (Carlisle, 2.30) 1pt win @ 3-1
