Top tipster Sam Turner is a regular on Racing TV and a proponent of speed figures and sectional timing. Here are his best bets for the day’s action
Two and a quarter miles will take some getting at Pontefract on Monday but Arrowtown is a very tough mare who has plenty of winning experience in the mud.
The selection has had a very quiet season having not seen a racecourse until September and running just three times. However she has done all her winning in the autumn, including a purple patch last year that saw her land three contests at distances up to just shy of today’s trip.
Although the seven-year-old has yet to trouble the judges on her recent return to racing, she looked in much better nick nine days ago at York when well supported in a soft ground stayers’ race, plugging on too late to land a blow.
Arrowtown races over a furlong and a half further today and will get a thorough test as she hits the uphill slog to the line. She has a big engine and should prove very hard to beat.
Liamba usually runs well at this venue but went out like a light after showing nice early speed here last time over 7f on her return to action following a 127-day break.
Probably a better horse over sprint distances, she now returns to her course and distance winning trip, fitter and looking decent value at around 8-1.
Risk Mitigation is yet to win but hails from an in-form yard and was unfortunate to bump into a runaway winner here a few days ago.
Although beaten nearly four lengths, he in turn was three lengths clear of the fancied third-placed horse and looks ready to boss this lowly classified stakes.
