Sam Turner has picked two course and distance winners at Southwell fancied to bolster their track stats.
Jazz Hands (Southwell, 1.45)
JAZZ HANDS had won just once in 18 starts before arriving at Southwell for the first time in late October.
However, the combination of first-time cheek-pieces plus the slow-riding Fibresand surface did the trick nicely as the four-year-old recovered from a poor start to begin motoring a furlong out. The kick-back was no problem and he has now made it a hat-trick of course and distance victories with the latest success on New Year’s Day.
The recent run of excellent form was slightly marred by a poor effort at Newcastle but he is 0-6 there and a different horse at today’s Rolleston venue where he is taken to maintain his 100% record despite the rise in class.
Oblate (Southwell, 2.50)
OBLATE is another to have taken to the surface but not with the same consistency as Jazz Hands.
All four of her outings have been here since a late summer/autumn 62-day break but the victory had to wait until New Year’s Day when she made her usual lazy exit from the stalls but picked up well 3f out and then led heading to the final furlong. She kept on going strongly and won in some style.
Oblate is a lightly-raced filly and there should be more to come following that initial victory.
Jazz Hands (Southwell, 1.45) 1pt win @ 3-1
Oblate (Southwell, 2.50) 1pt win @ 15-8
Jazz Hands is part of your Lucky 15 for Sunday.
