Sam Turner targets two all-weather horses on Sunday with speed ratings standing out from the field.
Blackcurrent (Wolverhampton, 3.40)
Connections have been patient with BLACKCURRENT who has shown signs of ability but has failed to get his head in front in 12 attempts.
That is not a lot of mileage for a four-year-old but he did have a year off and returned to racing with a decent effort behind Eesha Says last September and has mostly run quite well since without winning. Again, the gelding wasn’t far away last time when nibbled at in the market but the first-time cheek pieces appeared to backfire as - after hitting the front - his effort petered out in the final furlong.
The headgear is dispensed with today and Blackcurrent is relegated to basement class. This is his best his chance of a first victory.
Hooflepuff (Wolverhampton, 4.10)
HOOFLEPUFF is a two-time course and distance winner moving up in class after a series of decent performances since wind surgery and joining Brian Ellison.
No superstar, the selection does at least know how to win and has track stats that read 3141 since being gelded, and returns to Dunstall Park after trips to Newcastle - a venue he is yet to score at.
This is a first foray into Class 5 handicap company but his Wolverhampton speed figures offer plenty of hope and none of these are in sparkling form, except perhaps Noble Fox who keeps finding ways to get beaten.
Blackcurrent (Wolverhampton, 3.40) 1pt win @ 15-4
Hooflepuff (Wolverhampton, 4.10) ½ pt ew @ 9-2
