La Bague Au Roi (Huntingdon, 2.00)

LA BAGUE AU ROI takes on two recent winners of the Peterborough Chase in the shape of Top Notch and Charbel but last winter’s dual Grade 1 winner look set for a very big season despite a rare blip at Wetherby 36 days ago.

The smart eight-year-old had a tremendous winning spree last winter, culminating with victory in a Grade 1 Novice at Leopardstown. She ran well enough - but not quite at her best two months later at the Aintree festival and then flopped on her seasonal reappearance at Wetherby in the Charlie Hall Chase. Connections could offer no explanation for the way she capitulated but the mare looked race-rusty.

It would be no surprise to see her bounce back on Sunday, and with the King George Chase on Boxing Day the next target, La Bague Au Roi is top of the pile on my speed figures in this lesser event, with early money noted on Friday.

Mandalayan (Huntingdon, 2.30)

The same trainer/jockey combo can follow up in the next with MANDALAYAN who was a reasonable flat horse but only managed one win.

The four-year-old posted a promising debut for Warren Greatrex at Taunton, hitting a flat spot heading to the second last before picking up again. He can improve on that and this looks a winnable race.

La Bague Au Roi (Huntingdon, 2.00) 2pt win @ 2-1

Mandalayan (Huntingdon, 2.30) 1pt win @ 3-1

La Bague Au Roi is part of your daily double for Sunday.
