Sam Turner had a luckless day on Wednesday but with recent winners up to W7-1, is looking forward to Thursday.
Kilconny Bridge (Ludlow, 4.00)
KILCONNY BRIDGE continued the fine recent run of trainer Anthony Honeyball with a smooth victory at Exeter last week and might be hard to resist under her penalty today.
Connections have shrewdly snapped up the services of Ben Godfrey to offset the 7lb rise which looks a smart move, especially as a mark of 114 last week looked an exceedingly generous assessment of the selection's ability.
She has another opportunity to prove that appraisal is wide of the mark and, although the south Shropshire venue is a vastly different track to the one she has tackled recently, might still be a giant step ahead of the handicapper so rates a confident pick.
Howzer Black (Newcastle, 3.05)
HOWZER BLACK is a difficult horse to catch right, but he boasts the top three ratings on my speed figures and there were signs that his in-form trainer may have worked him out last time.
The step up to 10 furlongs on a stiff track appeared to produce marked improvement from the four-year-old who was ridden patiently early on because of his keenness before staying on late. He has another opportunity to prove that today's conditions are ideal and it will be disappointing if he can't build on that promise in a very winnable race.
