Melgate Majeure (Beverley, 4.00)

Connections shrewdly landed a Newcastle apprentice handicap last week which ensures their progressive three-year-old can contest this event unpenalised.

The selection ran well here on his penultimate start when an unconsidered 25-1 chance (it was tough to make ground from the rear) and it was notable to see that the market didn't miss him at Gosforth Park so it looks safe to assume his stable have him in a rich vein of form once more.

The Groove (Salisbury, 5.25)

The six-year-old has been industrious of late but again ran well in defeat at Wolverhampton in a claimer on Monday when noted staying on tidily under today's rider despite being a big price.

He boasts the top four figures on my ratings and appears to have a leading chance now he returns to today's venue. The step up to seven furlongs should suit and two of his best four career efforts have been achieved at this track so it will be disappointing if he doesn't take a hand in the finish.

Farzeen (Kempton,7.10)

Farzeen is lightly raced and hard to gauge how good she could be judged on a cosy victory in a modest Redcar affair on her turf debut.

However, the time suggested it was a smart performance and she had clearly stepped forward markedly from a rather subdued debut at Kempton back in January. Beautifully bred and an expensive purchase as a yearling, it will be disappointing if she can't add another victory to her cv here.
