There’s a stunning day’s racing on Saturday 5th July, 2025 with the feature meetings coming from Haydock Park and Sandown, with the latter hosting the Coral-Eclipse Stakes at 3:35pm and looks a fascinating renewal of the Group 1 showpiece. We take a look at all the action and pick out our best Saturday racing tips here…

1:50pm Sandown – Coral Charge
A winner of the Group 3 Palace House Stakes at Newmarket back in May, RUMSTAR has struggled to kick on from that effort since, but returns to that same level for Sandown Park’s opener on Saturday at 1:50pm and could prove to be a cut above his rivals. Johnny Portman’s five-year-old was last seen finishing way down the field in the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot, but this is certainly much calmer waters, and he can duly excel.
He will have to give weight away to all his rivals in this contest, with the likes of She’s Quality and Adrestia looking big rivals, but it was only in the closing stages of that Ascot race that saw Rumstar weaken having been on the speed, so you can’t completely discount that effort. A real top quality speedster, Portman’s raider looks more than capable of bouncing back to winning ways and looks the one to back in this competitive renewal.

2:25pm Sandown – Coral Challenge
An impressive one-length winner of a hugely competitive York handicap at the Ebor Festival, TREASURE TIME then ran a decent race off a 7lbs higher market a month later at Doncaster and the William Haggas-trained raider could still be open to more improvement this season and looks a solid pick in the Coral Challenge.
Sent off favourite for that Doncaster effort, he just struggled to reel in the leaders that day, but shaped like there could be a lot more to come and making his seasonal reappearance here off the same mark of 94 then he could be attractively handicapped to claim victory with Tom Marquand in the saddle.

3:00pm Sandown – Coral Distaff
Andrew Balding’s Blue Bolt is entitled to be well fancied for the Coral Distaff at 3pm, but this is a notable step up in grade and she will need to continue her progression to down some exciting fillies for this 1m Listed event. The abovementioned pairing of Haggas and Marquand could have a huge say in this race with SUPERMODEL catching the eye and looking the value play in the race.
A winner at Haydock on debut, she then failed to figure up at Listed level on her second start, but bounced back to winning ways with aplomb when readily downing Ralph Beckett’s Treasure at Nottingham in a handicap. Stepping back up in class here, she will need to kick on from that run, but she was utterly dominant during that contest and there could be plenty more to come on only her fourth racecourse start.

3:15pm Haydock – bet365 Old Newton Cup Handicap
David O’Meara’s STRESSFREE went into the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot on the back of a win at Haydock back at the end of May, and while the five-year-old gelding failed to land any sort of blow at the Royal Ascot last month, he will return to Lancashire for a wide open renewal of the Old Newton Cup, which is off at 3:15pm.
He’s 5lbs higher than that recent win over course-and-distance, but while he was well fancied to run well at Ascot he failed to get into contention from a wide draw and could only finish 15th of 18. Quick going that day may also have hindered him, so a return to a slightly slower surface here could be a huge positive and he has to be one that has a huge chance of landing the coveted prize.
