With Royal Ascot on the horizon punters will be looking to head into next week with some money in their pockets and one way to achieve that is by taking a look at Saturday’s racing. A bumper day’s action will take place across the country and York, Sandown and Chester will light up the ITV Racing coverage. Our in-house tipster Steve Chambers has taken a look at the races on ITV and picked out his best bets for the 14th June, 2025.

1:50pm York – Doug Johnstone Memorial. Ubettabelieveit Macmillan Handicap
There’s a hugely competitive 7f handicap to kick off the live ITV action at York and last year’s winner Tolstoy will be looking to emulate that his victory in 2024, but he’s been hugely out of form, so is going to struggle. The likes of Dashing Darcey and Blue For You both have some decent form in the book, but the selection is Ralph Beckett’s PALMAR BAY, who heads to the Knavesmire on the back of a win.
The four-year-old has been competing on the all-weather in recent times and finally got his head in front when landing a hugely competitive contest at Chelmsford City. Upped 3lbs for that success, he looked more than capable of improving on that effort, and if he can act on the grass then has a great chance under William Buick.

2:25pm York – Queen Mother’s Cup Handicap
Adrian Keatley’s MAGHLAAK was last seen finishing a narrow second over course and distance at York and the six-year-old can go one better and land victory in the Queen Mother’s Cup Handicap at 2:25pm. Just beaten by Great Bedwyn that day, Keatley’s raider was staying on all the way to the line that day and if he can repeat that effort then he has to be a huge player here.
He’s been given a 3lbs rise for that run, so he lines up off 88 here, but with Cheltenham Festival and Punchestown Festival-winning jockey Jody Townend in the plate then she can certainly get a big tune of her mount. The likes of Born Ruler and Chillingham are sure to be lively rivals, but it’s Maghlaak that can strike gold.

2:40pm Sandown – BetMGM Scurry Stakes
STAR OF MEHMAS was a rapidly improving juvenile sprinter last season and the Richard Hughes-trained son of Mehmas ended the season with a Listed win at Ayr. He’s been unable to recapture that sort of winning form this season, but he could be more than capable of landing victory in the Listed Scurry Stakes at Sandown Park at 2:40pm.
Last seen chasing home Tropical Storm in the Listed Westow Stakes at York, Star Of Mehmas is entitled to be a prominent figure in the betting and if he can just improve on that effort then he can get the better of the likes of Hold A Dream and Coto De Caza in what is a contest that lacks that star sprinter.
