Sam Turner's Best Bets BlogNO TRUMPS (Wetherby, 3.50) is improving with experience and had she settled better on her handicap bow three weeks ago, may have given the leaders more to think about.

Owned by The Queen, the selection was way too keen early on at Plumpton although she did move into contention three out before the initial exertions took their toll. That allowed the winner to get away and score by an easy near-eight lengths, with No Trumps finishing fourth.

It was a decent enough introduction to the handicapping ranks and, plus a solid speed figure recorded with further improvement likely, she looks excellent each-way value now dropped back a furlong in a weak but competitive race.

SAVE THE PENNIES (Huntingdon, 4.10) made the best of her handicap bow by winning over course and distance 16 days ago.

Nibbled at in the market, the eight-year-old mare ended up scrambling home but did so after a messy second-last jump. It was a good recovery by a tough horse and it would be a surprise if she couldn’t improve on that despite a 6lb rise in a poor contest.

MRS MIGGINS (Taunton, 5.05) ran well but in snatches last time giving every impression that she needs another try at today’s distance after getting out-paced late on.

Top on my speed figures the mare drops in class today with the handicapper taking off 4lb since the last try over today’s trip. She has a big shout of landing a first victory.
