The five-year-old started last year on a mark of just 50 after arriving winless from Ireland and, after a sighter at Thirsk, hit the ground running to record three well backed wins on the bounce. The attempt at a four-timer came unstuck as the quick turnaround between races took its toll and he failed to spark at Carlisle at very short odds.
Given a mini-break, the selection reappeared with the handicapper now in control and a rating of 83 proved too much. He did manage one more win in a £14,000 Navan handicap off 78 but struggled to make a mark in decent races back in the UK.
Clearly talented on his day, Only Spoofing has had a quiet start to the new season (nicely backed back at Navan again but well beaten) and was a shade unlucky at Pontefract 17 days ago. However, he is now looking better handicapped and back at the Scottish venue defending a 100% record, with the money coming on Wednesday evening.
It would be no shock to see him take this interesting handicap.
Only Spoofing 2pts win @ 4-1
Sent off the 11-2 favourite in the Investec Mile Handicap, the Queen’s gelding couldn’t go with the rampant winner Gossiping and trailed in five lengths in arrears, only just holding on to second place. He was due to run at Royal Ascot but has been saved for this and with a 3-5 all-weather record from a yard in fine form, looks tremendous value at around 11-2.
Seniority 1pt ew @ 11-2
