The three-year-old’s sole victory came at Ayr when tried over 7f for the first time when, despite a lack of experience, he stayed on with determination to hold off the second-placed horse in a tight finish. Returned to 5f next time he ran with credit but always had too much to do.
Upped back up to 7f on rain-softened - and deteriorating ground - on his latest outing, Redarna again posted a decent performance making eyecatching late progress to fail by just half a length.
Quite how much rain will hit the track is hard to say but the gelding is expected to relish the conditions and has the figures in my book to see off a competitive field over his optimum distance.
The Kempton claimer looks a tricky affair but MISHAAL (Kempton, nb, 5.45) has the top three figures in the race for me and looked most unfortunate to be collared close home in a Class 5 handicap on his return to the track five days ago.
It has to be said that his losing run goes back well over a year but a repeat of his Friday speed figure should be good enough here.
SINGEUR (Doncaster, 5.20) hasn’t been in the best of form in the run up to today’s contest but ran a better race last month in the Class 2 William Hill Silver Trophy. The veteran led home the far side group but was beaten overall by over four lengths.
That should tee the selection up nicely as he bids for a repeat win in today’s lower class race, off a 1lb lower mark.
