The six-year-old kicked off last year at York in a fast-run, seriously competitive sprint (rated 88) and despite being sent off at odds of 28-1, very nearly landed the spoils. It was another fine but unlucky run for the speedster, who was also agonisingly beaten a short head (rated 87) in the 2017 Epsom Dash - a race run in a warm time.
Mostly campaigned in Class 2 grade last year, Dark Shot reappears down a level and off a mark of 82. All looks good for a big run.
Dark Shot 2pt win @ 9-2
SOTO SIZZLER (Epsom, 3.20) landed a near £50,000 Goodwood handicap last year and looks set for more success following his comeback run at Kempton. Needing the run and drawn very high, he nonetheless ran respectably but didn’t quite have the finishing kick for the final furlong.
The four-year-old should be a different proposition today and is one to note in decent handicaps starting here, with no doubt Goodwood on the agenda later in the season.
Soto Sizzler 1pt ew @ 3-1
DESERT WIND (Epsom, 3.55) can also show the benefit of an all-weather spin after running well in Soto Sizzler’s race last month. He only capitulated late on but clocked nicely and is another that should be targeting warm handicaps on turf or the all-weather throughout the year.
He should be a nice each-way price for this.
Desert Wind 1/2pt ew @ 11-2
