BetMGM are sponsoring racing from Southwell on Tuesday night. Through their four races, GG’s in-house tipster Joe Napier has the following selections.
5.30 Southwell – Win £1M With BetMGM’s Golden Goals Nursery Handicap
Whizz By won for our BetMGM through the card column a few weeks ago, but though this race is nominally of the same class, it looks a fair bit stronger for all Tom Ward’s filly won well. Seed Investor could be the handicap debutant who is best treated, but preference is for SHERLOCK, who was third on his own nursery bow two weeks ago when favourite. Conversely, that race looked stronger than this one and he saw the 7f out well, so an improved effort against these rivals may suffice.
6.00 Southwell – Gamble Responsibly At BetMGM Handicap
There are evidently signs of life in Ideal Guest given he tore into a ten-length lead on his recent reappearance, and stable debut for Harriet Bethell. He could be interesting if able to be restrained, but the safe approach is to narrow this down to the two form runners in NOVAK and Monopolise. The latter’s victory eight days ago has landed him with a 5lb rise, and his form on tapeta is not as good as polytrack. As a result, Novak looks the play, as he was second off this mark four days ago over course and distance when probably given too much to do from the back.
6.30 Southwell – Win £1M With BetMGM’s Golden Goals Fillies’ Novice Stakes
For all that Nazuki ran a race full of promise on debut over course and distance, it is noteworthy that Ollie Sangster’s strike rate with his two-year-olds is significantly worse on the all-weather (2%) than on turf (20%) this season. She is the form standout, but BOUBOU could be an interesting filly to take her on with. She is a half-sister to the very talented Hurricane Ivor, who sparkled on his debut in 2019, and while his sibling did not match those heights on her own racecourse bow, she was contesting a strong race in testing conditions. She was far closer with a furlong left to run, and so this shorter, sharper test should see her in a better light.
7.30 Southwell – BetMGM: It’s Showtime Handicap
We will learn significantly more against this level of opposition, but the promise shown by QAZAQ in his two starts to date is difficult to ignore. Three-year-olds only get 2lb allowance from their elders at this juncture of the year, which could be tricky for one so inexperienced, but the runner-up from his debut last December is now rated 79, and he had him comfortably in arrears, while his turn of foot only kicked in late when 1/14 on his return last month. The step up to 1m should suit Roger Varian’s well-bred son of Kingman too.
