Southwell’s evening card looks a punting treat on Friday with a number of competitive handicaps to decode. GG’s in-house tipster Joe Napier has run through all of the BetMGM sponsored races to give his selections.
4.15 Southwell – BetMGM: It’s Showtime Nursery Handicap
For all that there could be plenty more to come from any of the handicap debutants here, KALEIDOSCOPE EYES has now gone close enough on two occasions to suggest she will win in this sphere soon. The yard’s form is a slight concern, but her second over course and distance in October came behind an improving rival, while 5f was likely too short for her at Newcastle. If nothing springs from their maiden and novice form, she is the one to side with.
4.45 Southwell – Weekly Free Bets With BetMGM Extra Handicap (Div I)
Despite a host of younger challengers to fend off here, it is the old boys’ brigade which may hold sway here. Eligible could easily go in again under 7lb claimer Lewis Chalkley, but LORD RAPSCALLION, a fellow eight-year-old, was unlucky not to get up on the line at Chelmsford eight days ago and remains on the same mark. He is also a two-time winner over course and distance, the last of which came off a rating of 80; he is racing off a mark of just 68 here.
5.15 Southwell – Weekly Free Bets With BetMGM Extra Handicap (Div II)
None of this field are in rampant form, so it might be worth chancing WOODLEIGH to carry some of his best turf form to this all-weather debut. Both of his half-siblings to have run in this country recorded their only British successes on all-weather surfaces, one of them doing so on the Tapeta at Wolverhampton. Trainer Declan Carroll also has a much better strike rate away from turf, while his charge here was third off a mark 2lb higher than this at Haydock over the summer and could easily be primed to do better switching surfaces.
6.15 Southwell – Boost Your Acca At BetMGM Nursery Handicap
Although she was disappointing at Lingfield recently, LOUDAN is worth giving another chance to, being so well related and trained by a powerful operation. Six of her seven half-siblings have posted RPRs above 80, so it would take precious little improvement from her to make hay off a mark of 64. She has to overturn finishing positions with a number of these rivals, but she was returning from a 113-day break and has some form in her back catalogue that suggests she has more ability than she showed that day.
7.45 Southwell – Best Odds Guaranteed At BetMGM Handicap
This is low quality fare, but it might be worth heeding that Kieran Shoemark sticks around for just a second ride of the night aboard UPPER HAND for Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole. The son of Camacho ran his best race for the years when third over 7f at this venue last time out, and while he was still well held, the step up to 1m could bring about the requisite improvement in what will prove the weakest race he has run in.
