Southwell’s evening card extends the racing action on Thursday, with their racing sponsored by BetMGM. GG Tipster Joe Napier has run through the card to come up with his best bets at the meeting.
5.00 Southwell – Win £1M With BetMGM’s Golden Goals Fillies’ Novice Stakes
Credible opposition looks thin on the ground for BLAST THE DREAM, who has been found another very winnable opportunity by Roger Varian. She ran well enough on debut before an odds-on reverse at Lingfield last time out. She was still a clear second though and the third has won since, so there is enough substance to suggest she can outclass these. Only the debutante Florida Dawn looks capable of an upset, though it was an unraced filly who beat the selection at Lingfield.
5.30 Southwell – Weekly Free Bets With Betmgm Extra Handicap
Manara is on a strong winning run and could even benefit from the step up to 1m3f here, but this will be a stern test even with this small field. It is very possible that SPIRIT OF JURA may also come into her own at this trip though and she warrants significant respect having been able to win over 1m in novice company. She is well-related, and with her two most talented half-siblings being at their best over 1m4f, her rating of 69 could easily be exploited on her handicap debut.
6.00 Southwell – Gamble Responsibly At Betmgm Handicap (Div I)
ASH WEDNESDAY will be a deservedly short price for this having readily found the winning thread the last twice. The four-year-old had been trending in the right direction since the autumn, but a close second on Boxing Day preceded two rampant successes at Wolverhampton, the most recent of which came five days ago, and he is unopposable in his quest for a hat-trick being 5lb well-in.
6.30 Southwell – Gamble Responsibly At Betmgm Handicap (Div II)
This looks much more competitive than the first division of this contest, though primarily because a standout form contender is lacking. Top-weight Valadero and Portoro are the most solid in that respect, but it might be worth chancing ANGEL Of THE BAY, who may have benefitted from a freshen up and who came very close to winning a 15-runner contest at Redcar in September when not getting much luck. His novice form on the all-weather was very solid without quite hitting the frame and he could well prove better on such surfaces. His career-low mark may be defiable.
7.00 Southwell – Boost Your Acca At Betmgm Handicap
Hitched and King’s School have been busy but remain in good form, so set a pretty decent standard. A flier is taken though on FIRST KISS, who could improve substantially for her debut for Ollie Sangster at the end of December. She was a maiden winner in the hands of the Gosdens in October before changing hands, but the break in between, coupled with the change of scenery may have seen her run fresh over course and distance last time out. She was also patently on the wrong side of the track late on, so with improvement expected for her stable debut, she is an interesting outsider on previous form.
8.00 Southwell – Win £1M With Betmgm’s Golden Goals Handicap
Neither Kinetic Force or Em Four convince thoroughly as handicap debutants here, so faith must be placed in one of those more experienced. None of Blinky, Kiss Me My Love or FALLEN SOLDIER are completely reliable, with every member of that trio prone to inconsistency, but they are all on winnable marks at their best. The last-named brings the best recent effort to the table after being beaten a nose over this 5f trip at Newcastle, so while he has had a notable blip at Southwell in the past, he is the most likeable option if maintaining his form.
