Back down to earth after the delights of Epsom and on a quiet day, all three of my picks line up at Nottingham.
HALLSTATT (Nottigham, 3.50) is first to run and the course and distance winner can leave behind a frustrating spell in the stayers’ handicap. The six-year-old is by no means a prolific winner but has never run a bad race at the east midlands venue and again went close on his last visit back in late May. Beaten three lengths by Veloce on Friday at Haydock, a return to Nottingham and a 4lb pull at the weights can work the oracle.
My other two are FULNEY (Nottingham, 4.50) and FAIRY MIST (Nottingham, 5.20), with the first-named well clear on my figures after a promising effort at Newmarket last back-end. The winner Diala didn’t set the world alight in the 1000 Guineas but the selection still rates a talent. Fairy Mist plodded on in the mud on his seasonal bow three weeks ago but would have needed the run and is rated a much better horse on faster going.
