Today in the GG Tips Den, we have a pair of each way bets at Newmarket, another in the 2.05pm at Cheltenham and, rather curiously, a fourth bet in a Class 6 Handicap up in Newcastle this evening...
1.50 - Consequences E/w 6/1, double stakes
3.00 - Projection E/w 10/1, double stakes
2.05 - Just A Thought E/w 11/1, double stakes
5.40 - Hediddodinthe 5/2
Consequences - This son of Dandy Man has a bit of size and presence about him and although his latest win at Newmarket couldn’t have worked out better tactically in the field of four, there was a lot to like about the way he moved through the gears and galloped through the line. The pick of his earlier form suggests a mark of 95 is exploitable and David O’Meara’s 3yo just looks a nice horse, so I’m looking forward to see what he can produce after the winter off.
Projection - Moderate record of 2 wins from 12 races but things haven’t always played out ideally for Roger Charlton’s potentially classy sprinter. A career best effort behind Blue Point to end 2017 sets him up nicely to hopefully become a more consistent performer this year. He is unexposed in Group company and at double figure odds he rates a likeable each way selection.
Just A Thought - The EBF Mares’ Final form was tested last week when Newbury winner Roksana gave it a complimented by giving Santini a real fright at Aintree. Today, the form will be examined once again as the 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th home at Newbury are set to run at Cheltenham. Three of them will run in the 3.15pm Listed Hcp Hurdle, but only one - Just A Thought - gives the 2.05pm Listed Novices’ Hurdle a try for trainer Rebecca Curtis. With an official rating of 125, she has a bit to find, but she stays & jumps very well, has been consistent all season and deserves to get her head in front. This isn’t an easy race in which to do so, but Dame De Compagnie and Dame Rose, while respected, don’t cut as overly domineering figures at the top of the market. Hopefully she enjoys the better ground and is able to represent the aforementioned form behind Roksana with a big run at healthy odds.
Hediddodinthe - This Class 6 Hcp over 2m is a weak affair and Neil Mulholland’s Dance Rock aside, there really isn’t much depth to the contest. Dance Rock was a fair 2nd at Wolves over 1m6f the last day and is on a fair mark, but the step up to 2m is an unknown for this son of Oasis Dream and I think he might struggle to give weight and a beating to Hediddodinthe, who is coming into winning looking form for new trainer Iain Jardine. A horse with an interesting pedigree and hard-to-pronounce name, Hediddodinthe has run two sound races at this trip on his last two starts, while 5lb claimer Jamie Gormley takes his racing weight down to a handy looking 8st 11lb; Vs chief danger Dance Rock having similar form claims but needing to give our selection the thick end of a stone.
