As far as Tuesdays go, this one has excellent racing on. We have four selections running for us through the afternoon at Newmarket, Exeter and Fairyhouse, on a day packed with variety and more than a pinch of quality...
.25 - Porth Swtan E/w 4/1, double stakes - A neat maiden here, sure to throw up a few winners through the season, but experience could count for a lot and Porth Swtan has plenty of that. For all he looks a tad exposed, Charlie Hills’ inmate sets a pretty good standard and if fit first time out he should take a bit of beating.
.45 - Muhtaris E/w 20/1 - 75 rated flat performer, not seen over hurdles since 2016 and has clearly had niggling issues. He has decent ability though and stands out a bit on a mark of 117 for the in-form Ian Williams stable (7/28 past 28 days). He’s 2-0-3 in Class 4 company, is a soft ground winner and 10lb claimer Edward Austin rides pretty well.
.20 - L’Auberge Du Bois E/w 5/1, double stakes - This improving 6yo was readily outclassed by Blu Cavalier at Wincanton on heavy ground, but stayed on encouragingly after being outpaced and posted a sound speed figure in the process. Exeter should suit and he might progress again if the ground isn’t too tacky today.
.15 - Mortal E/w 10/1 - I had this fella more in mind to pop up at a reasonable price in a decent maiden, but Joseph O'Brien’s inmate is a very slick jumper with a good future ahead of him. Having caught the eye a couple of times this season, a mark of 127 is about right on the face of it, so he will need to improve, but he looks a decent stayer in the making. At 10/1 I’m happy to have him on side.
