As usual there were a few temptations at shorter prices, but I've attempted to unearth some value instead of becoming too drawn into back favourites on a tricky Friday....
3.30 - Marmelo 9/1 generally
Claire’s Secret, Oh Its Saucepot - Claire’s Secret was poor first time out but put that run behind her with a much better effort when 6th of 11 at Wolverhampton. Dropped 2lb on the back of that and David Egan takes 7lb off, so this neat little filly looks nicely weighted for a return to the turf. Oh Its Saucepot ran in a couple of very interesting races at Kempton and Newmarket last term and is a filly who should be a much better 3yo. Chris Wall has saddled up 11 winners from 72 Newmarket runners in the last 3 years and this daughter of Sir Percy could spring a surprise if fit first time out.
Izzy Bizu - Missed the break at Catterick on debut but regathered momentum like a little pro and despite looking green and hanging a fair bit too, she utilised a really likeable galloping style to pick up and pass her rivals; finding loads in the final 100 yards to put the race to bed. This is a massive step up in opposition, but I like her and I’m happy to have her on side.
Marmelo - Nice 4yo colt with a blend of speed and stamina. Excellent form last year, clocked a cracking time (broke track record at the trip) at Chantilly on seasonal debut and I see no reason why he can’t develop into a proper cup horse this season.
Compromise - Hardy and handsome son of Pivotal who takes an interesting drop in trip here. He’ll surely prove considerably better than a mark of 75 and with Lulu Stanford bringing the horse’s racing weight down to 8st 2lb, he should go very well in an open race.
Shawami - Small filly who is yet to win but has conditions to suit today with this fast ground. A step back to 5f is really interesting in a first time tongue tie and she’s nicely priced at 11/1 for a win bet.
