image-left-align Sam Turner's Best Bets BlogThe step up in trip on Thursday should help Roaring Lion who was a fine fifth in the Guineas, but he hasn’t looked straightforward at times so it could be worth taking a chance with WELLS FARHH GO (York, 3.30), who landed an excellent renewal of the Acomb Stakes last year and is sure to improve for this trip.

That renewal of the Acomb has worked out incredibly well with runner-up James Garfield just one of a host of horses to enjoy success following a prominent showing. It should come as no surprise really given the quality of time generated by a strong gallop from the outset and I am just hoping the selection is streetwise enough to take a hand in the finish of today's event.

The victory of BARAWEEZ (York, 4.05) opened the floodgates to a number of Brian Ellison-trained winners in recent days and it could be worth sticking with the battle-hardened gelding now that he has recovered the winning form which eluded him for so long. I fancied a couple to beat the selection on the Roodee last week, but he sauntered past my fancies to score readily at the line and there may be another win of that stature in him before the handicapper truly has his say.

It has to be taken on trust that WAITING FOR RICHIE (York, 5.35) is ready to run at full capacity on his reappearance, but his fine second to Knavesmire specialist Theydon Grey reads well in the context of this race and he was only beaten a length on his return at Doncaster last year.

That speed figure was the best recorded by the selection last season and, with his affinity for the track assured and the excellent James Sullivan on board, he may prove the answer to the finale at a tidy price.
