There’s a bumper nine-race all-weather card at Southwell on Saturday, with all the action sponsored by BetUK & BetMGM.
GG editor Steve Chambers has taken a look through all the races and has picked out a selection in each contest in his Through-The-Card tipping preview.

4.00pm – BetMGM: It’s Showtime Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Div 1)
We kick off proceedings with a 6f 16y novice stakes that will see a whole plethora of newcomers line up and there are some eye-catching runners that could be potentially decent performers in the future.
Karl Burke’s Cuban Tiger was a €200,000 yearling purchase and the Burke newcomers are certainly worth watching and this son of Havana Grey is related to some winners and is sure to be popular with punters.
However, it’s Archie Watson’s WINTER WAR that makes the most appeal as the son of No Nay Never is a brother to a 5f and 6f winner, so this trip should be ideal on debut and the €90,000 yearling can kick off his career with a win.
4.30pm – BetMGM: It’s Showtime Novice Stakes (GBB Race) (Div 2)
Karl Burke’s ARTISTIC MISSION has had the benefit of two runs and the Showcasing gelding certainly took a big step forward when finishing second at Newcastle last time out over 7f. Dropping back to 6f for this event, Burke’s charge will face some notable rivals in the shape of the twice-raced Roman Emperor and newcomer Novarro, but it’s Artistic Mission that makes most appeal as the Burke team opt for the visor here.
5.00pm – Boost Your Acca At BetMGM Handicap
Gary Moore’s CEPHALUS was backed like defeat was out of the question last time out at Lingfield when he was sent off a red-hot favourite and the five-year-old is looking to follow that up at Southwell on Saturday and if he’s in the same form then it’s tough to see him getting beat here.
A former winner at Southwell, Cephalus has been given a 4lbs rise by the handicapper for that win 17 days ago, but he’s still 12lbs lower than his highest ever winning mark of 73, so there’s certainly the capabilities of him landing back-to-back wins in this 1m 13y contest.
5.30pm – Win 2,000,000 With BetMGM’s Golden Goals Handicap
It could prove to be a profitable day for the Archie Watson team and they can taste more success at 5.30pm with OUT OF THE STARS claiming victory in a trappy five-runner affair.
A winner at Kempton on debut, the daughter of Zoustar was then thrown in at the deep end in the Group 2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot, but was unable to land any sort of blow. Back in calmer waters last time when winning well at Wolverhampton, she’s only been given a 2lbs rise for that victory and while she’s up from Class 5 to Class 4 here she has the capabilities of making it three wins from four starts.
6.00pm – Best Racing Odds Guaranteed At BetMGM Handicap (Div 1)
INTOXICATA has been knocking on the door in several races of late, but the Ed Dunlop-trained filly can finally return to winning ways in the 6.00pm race, which is one of the most competitive betting heats on the nine-race card.
Not out of the first three on her last seven starts, she’s been a real model of consistency and while she is 8lbs higher than her last winning mark, she run well off her current mark of 59 and she is likely to be on the vicinity again for Hollie Doyle, who could have a superb afternoon/evening at Southwell on Saturday.
6.30pm – Best Racing Odds Guaranteed At BetMGM Handicap (Div 2)
Richard Fahey’s ABSOLUTE DREAM put up a decent effort when fourth at Southwell in mid-December and the eight-year-old is back for another crack to try and claim his first win at the venue and he looks capable of doing such in the 6.30pm contest.
A winner at Hamilton off a mark of 57 back in September, Fahey’s charge has been kept busy, but he put in his best effort in a while at Southwell on his last start and having been dropped 1lb to 58 then he has the potential to strike again.
7.00pm – Bet 10 Get 40 At BetMGM Fillies’ Handicap
Three wins from ten career starts has been a fairly decent return for Jack Channon’s SIXTIES CHIC and the four-year-old daughter of Sixties Icon can make it win number four in a decent contest at 7.00pm.
A winner at Lingfield at the start of December off 63, she’s failed to kick on with a seventh and third placed finish on her last two starts off a mark of 66. However, the handicapper has eased her 1lb on her first visit to Southwell she looks like she could be capable off bottom weight and a mark of 65 here.
She didn’t have the clearest of passages on her last outing when third at Lingfield, so providing there are no traffic problems here then she should be on the vicinity.
7.30pm – BetUK. Its Where The UK Bets Handicap
USTATH had a lengthy eight month absence before returning at Southwell last month and finishing seventh of 11 over 4f 214y. Dropped 2lbs for that outing and stepping back up to 6f 16y for the penultimate race on Saturday he could be capable of claiming victory at a decent prize.
A former course and distance winner, Ustath is now rated lower than his last winning mark and with that return outing sure to have blown away the cobwebs then he could well come on leaps and bounds and duly land his fifth success at the track.
8.00pm – BetUK. Home Of The Acca-Fenwa Classified Stakes
We end with a low-key finale with a whole host of out-of-form runners lining up, but it could be worth taking a chance on Ben Brookhouse’s RESET BUTTON, who drops back in trip and could outstay his rivals in this contest.
The six-year-old hasn’t won since January 2022, but that came over 1m 3f 219y and he lines up here over a slightly longer trip of 1m 4f 14y, but he’s 2lbs lower than his last winning mark and while he’s been struggling of late the drop back from two miles could well see him run well and he’s the tentative selection.
