Sam Turner's Best Bets BlogMYPLACEATMIDNIGHT (Plumpton, 2.20) has been making steady progress this season and was an unfortunate loser at Wincanton on Thursday.

The seven-year-old looked to be heading for victory when a sloppy jump at the last cost him vital momentum to let the winner through late on. Favourite backers will have been unamused at the capitulation but it transpired that he’d lost a shoe.

Clearly no damage has been done and Myplaceatmidnight reappears very quickly but now down in class and back into novices’ company. This looks a decent opportunity to bounce back.

Myplaceatmidnight 2pts win @ 6-4

TIERRA VERDE (Taunton, 3.30) badly needed the run on debut for Emma Lavelle over two and a half miles but, dropped in trip and quite well backed, she scored comfortably next time. The mare then reappeared 19 days later at Kempton but despite running with credit faded late on, perhaps with the race coming too soon.

With that in mind, Tierra Verde is back after a 42-day break at the scene of her victory and clear on my Taunton figures.

Tierra Verde 1pt win @ 4-1

HOULTON (Kempton, 7.30) has been knocking at the door at the Sunbury-on-Thames venue since his strong-finishing success at Chelmsford.

Overhauled late on over course and distance 26 days ago, the progressive four-year-old now moves up a level but brings a decent portfolio of track figures into the race. He is fancied to run well.

Houlton 1pt win @ 3-1
