3.00 Hereford – CAN’T BEAT HISTORY (1pt E/W – 13/2 Bet365, 6/1 generally)

Henry Oliver has an impressive 20% strike-rate when sending his horses over fences at Hereford, and he’s sending just the one runner there on Tuesday. CAN’T BEAT HISTORY is one of three previous winners over fences in the line up, and I think he’s got a fantastic chance of landing the honours again here. After finishing a well-beaten fifth on his chase debut, he then won as he liked next time out at Market Rasen, eventually running out a 14 length winner. His next run saw him go off as an even money favourite, but he was badly hampered early doors and unseated over the fourth fence, so I’m willing to forgive him that run (Talkingthetalk won that day, who re-opposes here). The most recent run saw him step up to three miles for the first time and he was hardly disgraced, finishing a sixth length 4th. He’s since been dropped 2lb for that effort and is now 5lb better off with Talkingthetalk now, which should be more than enough to see the selection finish ahead of that rival this time around.

5.00 Huntingdon – ENTHUSED (1pt win – 11/4 William Hill, 5/2 generally)

ENTHUSED is a horse that keeps improving this season and I’m keen to side with him until he stops. This season he has only finished outside the top three twice – on seasonal return when needing the run, and in a class 2 event when the ground was apparently riding softer than the official going, so he has excuses for both runs. He’s won four races so far this season, including a win at this course back in May and an impressive win in a class 2 event at Uttoxeter last month. He escapes a penalty for winning a conditional jockeys’ event at Ludlow last week, so remains off the same mark here and I’m expecting him to take full advantage. Amateur jockey Alex Chadwick has an impressive 29% strike-rate when riding over hurdles this season, so he’s excellent value for his 7lb claim and he’s already been on board for two of Enthused’s four career wins over obstacles. I think he looks good value here to extend his impressive run this season, and he rates as the best bet on the Huntingdon card for me.

8.30 Newcastle – BLACKCURRENT (2pt win – 7/2 William Hill, 10/3 generally)

I’ve already discussed BLACKCURRENT in my through-the-card article for Newcastle tomorrow, which you can view HERE or by clicking the link to the article below, but I’ll go through the key reasons behind the selection again.

This is a poor race to end the day’s racing but I simply can’t see how Blackcurrent gets beat. He’s the only runner to be arriving in any sort of form, with a win and three placed finisishes from his four runs since returning from a break in August. His last effort over C&D saw him stay on strongly to edge out a close finish over Mumcat, who has since won on her next effort over C&D to boost the form. She then put in an excellent performance to finish runner-up behind Phoenix Star last time out when dropped back to 5f which wouldn’t have suited. The return to 6f is a plus and trainer Alan Brown has a healthy 20% strike-rate at Newcastle this season. As previously mentioned, this isn’t a strong race and the selection has by far the best form on offer, so I’d make him the NAP of the day.
