Tote Placepot At Sandown: Selections For Saturday 6th July

It’s Coral-Eclipse day at Sandown Park on Saturday afternoon as Derby hero City Of Troy aims to land more Group 1 success on the level. Away from that contest that should see Aidan O’Brien’s superstar cruise to victory there should be some competitive action and we aim to land the Tote Placepot and pick out our selections for all six races.

If you’re new to the Tote, you can get £50 in Bonuses when you sign up using the link below and place a £10 bet.

Leg 1: 1.15pm – Coral Play ‘Racing-Super-Series’ For Free Handicap

Leg 1 Selections: (5) Pitney

Hugo Palmer’s PITNEY ran an absolute stormer last time out when finishing second at Chester and the Mehmas colt can go one better in Sandown’s opening 7f handicap at 1:15pm. Forced wide that day on the Roodee, he was staying on all the way to line, but just failed to get his head in front. Upped 2lbs, he will take his chance off 82, but in a race full of horses that are yet to set the world alight then he can return to winning ways.

Leg 2: 1.50pm – Coral Charge

Leg 2 Selections: (3) Desperate Hero

Former Nunthorpe Stakes winner Live In The Dream is the obvious one to beat in this season’s Group 3 Coral Charge, but Adam West’s Group 1 winner was disappointing when fifth in the Listed Achilles Stakes last time out, so it could be worth opting for an in-form rival here. Jack Channon’s DESPERATE HERO steps out of handicap company for this contest, but has been in tremendous form bagging victory on his last two starts and he could well land the hat-trick here.

Coral Charge (Group 3) (Registered as the Sprint Stakes)

Leg 3: 2.25pm – Coral Challenge

Leg 3 Selections: (4) Perotto

Roger Varian’s PEROTTO ran an absolute stormer when finishing third in the Royal Hunt Cup at Royal Ascot last month and the six-year-old can build on that effort and claim victory in the Coral Challenge at 2:25pm. He’s been given a 1lb rise for that fine run, but the former Britannia Stakes winner has shown that he could be back to his best and he can get the better of Holloway Boy and Metal Merchant here.

Leg 4: 3.00pm – Coral Distaff

Leg 4 Selections: (1) Bolsena

Impressive Sandringham Stakes winner Soprano will now look to step up to Listed level and claim victory in the Coral Distaff at 3:00pm, but George Boughey’s raider could be vulnerable to a classier horse and the one that is worth backing is the over-priced BOLSENA for Kevin Ryan and Neil Callan. The daughter of Kingman was just caught in the shadow of the post last time out at Goodwood, so the drop back to 1m here could bring on notable improvement and she can land the prize here.

Leg 5: 3.35pm – Coral-Eclipse

Leg 5 Selections: (4) City Of Troy

A stunning two-and-three-quarter length winner of the Derby at Epsom Downs, CITY OF TROY will now take on some proven, classy older horses in the Coral-Eclipse at 3:35pm. However, it looks like the three-year-olds will provide the biggest test for him with Dancing Gemini and Jayarebe notable adversaries. Despite them having some smart form in the book, Aidan O’Brien’s star should have no problems brushing all his opponents aside should he be in the form he showed when sparkling up the Downs in the Derby a few weeks ago.

Leg 6: 4.12pm – Coral Racing Club Handicap

Leg 6 Selections: (2) Break The Bank

We end the Tote Placepot with a trappy 1m 1f 209y handicap and last-time-out winners Ashariba and Midnight Rumble are two prominent figures in the betting. But, the one worth taking a chance with is Andrew Balding’s BREAK THE BANK, who was last seen finishing fourth of seven at Sandown Park. He wore the visor for the first time that day to try and settle him and that will need to work better again on Saturday, but he has shown he has some talent on the track and a mark of 82 looks workable.
