Leg 1: 1.15pm

Leg 1 Selections: (5) Don’t Rightly Know

The top three in the market here are the ones to focus on and the outsider of the trio DON’T RIGHTLY KNOW makes most appeal for the Placepot. She has made the frame on her last six hurdles starts, including being second behind a runaway winner in a Grade 2 at Haydock last time. The step back in trip could test her for speed, but the heavy ground is definitely in her favour where it may not be for the others.

Leg 2: 1.50pm

Leg 2 Selections: (2) Monviel, (4) Castle Rushen

In terms of the races they have won, and how they have done so, favourites Jagwar, Cant Bay and One Eye On Vegas are all short enough for now. Instead, two who look set to come good soon are MONVIEL and CASTLE RUSHEN. The former has been disappointing since a highly encouraging chase debut back in October behind JPR One. He was mid-division, but far from disgraced at Ascot last month, but the heavier surface looks in his favour and a mark of 126 comfortably underestimates him at his best.

Castle Rushen may not have won since November 2020, but he has been second four times since, including off a mark of 130 at this level last season. He is now 5lb lower and may have needed his reappearance at Haydock last month; he is another whose rating looks generous.

Leg 3: 2.25pm

Leg 3 Selections: (16) Seefin, (18) Gwennie May Boy

Given the form of his handicappers at the Cheltenham Festival this week, it would be little surprise to see Dan Skelton claim another big-field handicap here. Both SEEFIN and GWENNIE MAY BOY are arriving here off the back of victories and shape as though they could follow up here.

The former stayed every yard on soft ground at Warwick over 3m1f last time, boding well for this test, as that was his first National Hunt run on soft. He may well be on the verge of significant improvement. Gwennie May Boy is having just his second run for Skelton here, having won stable debut at Bangor just over two weeks ago. The bounce factor is a slight worry, but he was value for a greater margin of victory that day and is up just 4lb in this race.

Leg 4: 3.00pm

Leg 4 Selections: (1) Mr Incredible, (10) My Silver Lining

A wide-open renewal of the Midlands National, previewed here for GG. MR INCREDIBLE should be thereabouts for Willie Mullins while the uber consistent MY SILVER LINING has barely run a bad race since 2022 and could make a bold bid from the front.

Leg 5: 3.35pm

Leg 5 Selections: (5) Evies Vladimir

You should be fairly safe for Placepot purposes here with Gavin Cromwell’s EVIES VLADIMIR. The yard have had a great season with their challengers from over the Irish Sea and this seven-year-old has been highly progressive in handicaps this season. He was third in a Listed handicap at Naas most recently, staying on for third over 2m4f, so this extra half-a-mile should suit, and a mark 5lb higher than his Irish one is manageable. It would be a surprise if we did not see another confident ride by Keith Donoghue.

Leg 6: 4.10pm

Leg 6 Selections: (1) Hymac

Bolsover Bill is on a hat-trick, but this ground is not guaranteed to see him at his best even if eases slightly from heavy to soft. Top-weight HYMAC could yet prove better, as he had solid point form on soft ground over 3m and won his only bumper over 2m1f on soft too. He is yet to meet genuinely testing ground over obstacles, but even then, there are elements of his form which suggest he can bely a mark of 121. He hung left on the tightly right-turning Taunton last time and still wasn’t beaten far, so if he behaves on this left-handed track, he can be involved.
