Leg 1: 1.35pm

Leg 1 Selections: (13) City House

Plenty of these have all-weather form, but this was won last year by a three-year-old, the returning Batal Dubai, and may be again courtesy of CITY HOUSE. His age group receive a useful 7lb allowance at this point of the season, which could well be used to good effect.

He was most recently seen finishing second at Kempton against his fellow three-year-olds, for which he is up 2lb, but that did take his record on the all-weather to 212, compared to 4090 on turf. The winner of that recent race was beaten a neck next time after his own 3lb rise, so it looks decent form and jockey Daniel Muscutt’s 18% win rate at Newcastle is as high as at any other track at which he has had more than 50 rides.

Leg 2: 2.04pm

Leg 2 Selections: (5) Montassib, (6) Never Just A Dream

Kinross is the clear class horse in this race, but may well need the run on his way to other assignments ahead. Spycatcher is usually consistent, so it was alarming to see him perform so poorly at York last time when seemingly racing up the favoured side of the track. MONTASSIB ended up down the stands side in that race despite his draw, and ultimately finished as close as he could from the back. He won debut over course and distance and looks as strong as any of these on current form.

It may also be worth taking a chance on rank outsider NEVER JUST A DREAM, not least because these connections have a habit of springing massive upsets. Their charge is two from two over track and trip from his juvenile days, the latter of those victories seeing him beat future Group 1 runner-up Shouldvebeenaring comfortably. His form has been up and down since primarily racing in the Middle East, but is worth a dart given his current price.

Leg 3: 2.35pm

Leg 3 Selections: (8) Haveyoumissedme

Favourite Alphonse Le Grande may well take some stopping, but it could be worth plumping for one of each-way value here in HAVEYOUMISSEDME for Iain Jardine. Not only was his charge runner-up in this race two years ago off 6lb higher, but he was a notable gamble two starts back over course and distance.

That gamble was not quite landed, as he finished second to the ban in-form The Craftymaster, but it was remarkable he started favourite over that rival, as the selection had been in terrible form prior. He has since disappointed on turf again, but his form at this course and distance is 212 and all in decent enough company. It is very possible this has been a long term target.

Leg 4: 3.10pm

Leg 4 Selections: (14) Trooper Bisdee

Sir Mark Prescott had the opportunity of running recent Royal Ascot winner Pledgeofallegiance here, who was the favourite earlier in the week. The fact he stays at home speaks well to the chances of TROOPER BISDEE who faces a quick turnaround that is negated by the vote of confidence from his stable.

He has been a typical improver for marathon trips for his yard, so his two tailed-off efforts on the all-weather as a two-year-old are easily overlooked. He has won on both starts this season, his win last weekend coming by four lengths for which he gets just a 5lb penalty, and while the last two winners of this have come from higher up the handicap, he looks to be weighted kindly enough.

Leg 5: 3.40pm

Leg 5 Selections: (12) Local Hero

Experience of the all-weather is key in splitting the top two in the market in LOCAL HERO and United Approach. Over 7f, the three-year-old allowance is 9lb, so the selection is benefitting even more at this juncture and looks particularly progressive on artificial surfaces.

His two wins have been on Polytrack, while a fairly distant second was achieved on Tapeta at Wolverhampton, but the winner may well prove to be a specialist on the all-weather too. Similarly, that second occurred after a break, with him seemingly having stepped forward nicely to win at Kempton and a 6lb rise does not look too taxing.

Leg 6: 4.15pm

Leg 6 Selections: (7) Invited

This should provide a good opportunity for Amo Racing’s INVITED, who should now be perfectly primed after two runs under his belt this month. He was a close third on debut at Newbury before chasing home an odds-on favourite at Newmarket who may well prove top class. It is interesting that he is being dropped two furlongs in trip here, but he has a speedy enough pedigree to deal with it.
