Since the start of last year, those drawn in stall ten or higher are just 2-129 in big-field 6f Wolverhampton handicaps, suggesting that current joint-favourite Ingleby Molly (stall ten of 12) could be vulnerable in the All New Dacia Duster Handicap (2.20).
Royal Applause, the sire of third favourite Passing Star (stall five), hasn’t got the greatest record on the Tapeta at Dunstall Park (5.13% strike-rate overall and 0-25 this year) and he could be vulnerable even though Silvestre De Sousa takes over in the saddle.
There’s not a huge amount of early pace on offer in this race and one to take advantage could be BLACK TRUFFLE (stall two), who is well drawn towards the inside. He was a modest fifth over 7f here last time when given a patient ride in eyeshields but the return to 6f and cheekpieces could prove key. Nicola Currie takes over from a 7lb claimer and her record when riding him on the all-weather reads 682443321323 (1-12). Not the greatest strike-rate by any means but encouraging from an each-way perspective in such a weak race.
AHUNDREDNOTOUT (stall six) is nicely drawn and the form of his Fairyhouse second to Admiralty was franked when that one scored at Carlisle on Monday. He won a maiden here last autumn on his sole course outing and his trainer had a double at Ayr on Tuesday. He’s worth a saver.
