On yesterday’s evidence PRESIDENTIAL (stall 25) could be well drawn in the Tote Victoria Cup at Ascot (4.00) and the five-year-old is worthy of each-way support. He fared best of the high-drawn runners and best of the closers when a 16-1 third at Newmarket on his comeback, taking his record over a straight 7f to 1174133 (3-7), with the sole unplaced effort excusable as he was left with too much to do in a slowly-run race at Leicester. He’d also caught the eye at Doncaster on his final start last year, finishing third of 17 on soft ground and doing best of those to race down the centre (first three drawn 16, 17 and nine).
HAWAAM (stall three of 11), a stablemate of Presidential, was only tenth of 12 at Doncaster last time but wasn’t well drawn towards the far side in stall two (winner drawn 11). The badly-drawn sixth (stall three) won next time and the ninth, also badly berthed (stall one), improved his RPR (Racing Post Rating) by 19lb when fifth from another poor draw at Thirsk. His sole success came at Nottingham where he can be backed in the 5f Sophies Choice Handicap on Saturday (2.20).
Hawaam – Nottingham 2.20 (1pt win, 11-1 Paddy Power, Betfair)
Presidential – Ascot 4.00 (1pt each-way, 8-1 generally)
