The centre of the track is the place to be in sprints at Goodwood, favouring those drawn low. Four of the first five in the market for today’s 6f Ed Chamberlain Classic Golf Day Handicap are drawn high and there could be some value among the low numbers (the winners at Friday’s meeting were drawn 2, 2, and 3).
YOUKAN (stall four of 12) could only finish ninth of 11 when the 3-1 favourite at Haydock on Thursday but that was over the minimum trip of five furlongs and he was badly drawn in stall 13 of 13 on a day the far side (low draws) dominated. He did win over five furlongs at Haydock last year but benefitted from a pace collapse and his trainer stated post-race that he’d be better over six furlongs on soft going, conditions he gets today. He was an eyecatcher at Ascot on his penultimate start when best of those drawn low in Louie De Palma’s race (first four drawn 12, 14, 16 and 5) and his yard had a 7-1 winner here on Friday.
Youkan – Goodwood 4.10 (1pt each-way, 11-1 William Hill, four places)
