After a successful Cheltenham Festival, Andrew Mount provides his best bets for Saturday’s jumps action at Uttoxeter…
FORECAST caught the eye at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day where he finished a 20-1 fourth in a three-mile handicap hurdle, despite racing on the slowest groung towards the inside rail. That trip stretches his stamina to the limit and Martin Keighley’s seven-year-old will be happier back at 2m4f in the Marston’s Pedigree Handicap Hurdle (3.00). His two runs at this sort of trip since wind surgery have seen him finish a 25-1 third to Paisley Park on unsuitably quick going at Aintree before romping home by 15 lengths on heavy ground at Lingfield.
Like most progeny of Midnight Legend, DAWSON CITY seems best in the latter stages of the jumps season and he returned to winning ways at Exeter last month in a 3m6f handicap chase on good to soft going. His record over fences in February, March or April now reads 2222231P1261 (3-12). The pulled up came on unsuitably quick ground in the 2017 Scottish National and the sixth-place came in the 20-runner Bet365 Gold Cup last season when the ground was also plenty fast enough. He looks tailor-made for the 4m2f Marston’s 61 Deep Midlands Grand National (3.35).
Forecast – Uttoxeter 3.00 (1pt each-way, 18-1 Coral, five places)
Dawson City – Uttoxeter 3.35 (1pt each-way, 20-1 Coral, five places)
