Form & Verdict

Impressive when staying on well to get the better of Gabynako in the Grade 1 Drinmore at Fairyhouse in November; had a tougher task in the race won by Galopin Des Champs at Leopardstown two weeks ago where he paid the price for an error and came down; almost certain to relish this step up in trip but it won't be easy giving weight to these rivals.

Finished fourth in the 2021 Stayers' Hurdle at Cheltenham; he ran well for a long way when ninth to Langer Dan in last month's Coral Cup but this 10yo is not the force of old and would be a shock winner today.

Acts on heavy; smart performer for Noel Meade in 2021, fourth here in the Grade 1 Stayers'; more miss than hit since and last year's Coral Cup saw one of his lesser efforts; his better shows last term give him a shout but while plenty of ability remains this term for new yard, judged on those the handicapper has not shown him enough leniency.

1-14 over fences; beaten when coming down at the final fence at Haydock last time and as his rating suggests, out of his depth in this company.

Makes quick reappearance after struggling from out of the weights in good-quality 2m4f contest here on New Year's Day; will find this race easier but is patently not the force of old and others in this line-up have much more persuasive profiles.

10yo who has been regressive and, although he took a step back in the right direction over hurdles here last time, he didn't shape as though a win was imminent; 7lb out of the handicap now back over fences and others preferred.

Returned with handicap chase win at Cork before a big run in a valuable Leopardstown handicap over Christmas; made an error before pulling up at Gowran since; yet to prove he can be a player at this sort of level.

Form & Verdict

Grade 2 winning novice hurdler last term and has kept some smart company since switching to fences this season; didn't jump too fluently but still ran with plenty of credit when only narrowly denied by Stattler in a Grade 3 at Naas 21 days ago and the ground was probably quick enough for him that day; nice prospect and open to further progress.

Smart novice chaser two seasons back; 613 days off before this term, easily best of four runs since when beaten a neck in a Pertemps qualifier over hurdles but he was pulled up in the Final last month; stays 3m1f and goes well on heavy; that still leaves him with plenty to prove, including as he capsized at the first fence in a big field on reappearance.

Form & Verdict

Promising start to life over fences when making all in a Fairyhouse beginners' in November but tailed off twice since in graded company and made jumping errors last time at Punchestown; step up to 3m may help but he has a bit more to prove than some of these.

His return to form at Leopardstown (2m5f, yielding) came out of the blue and it was hard work at the finish; prone to mistakes and unproven over this far, though was declared for this 12 months ago only to be withdrawn (lame).

Form & Verdict

Runner-up in the Irish National last year and came on from his reappearance with impressive handicap success over C&D; not quite as good when runner-up in a Grade 1 at Leopardstown over Christmas but should be capable of having a say down in class here and acts on any ground.

Verdict

Run Wild Fred is clear of his rivals on ratings but he's had a few more goes over fences than his unexposed stablemate FAROUK D'ALENE (nap) who chased home Stattler last time. Gordon Elliott's seven-year-old has room for improvement in the jumping department and he won't mind a return to more testing conditions here. Beacon Edge is another nice prospect but he might struggle to give weight to this field. [Phill Anderson]
