Form & Verdict

Looked the likely winner when falling two out in similar event over C&D (good to soft; Goa Lil handed the race) last month; the rest of his chase form stacks up very well and he still looks well treated despite a 3lb rise; leading player granted a clear round.

Absent since 9l fourth to Editeur De Gite last January in Grade 1 at Cheltenham (2m, soft); however, he finished lame and had impressed previously in handicaps at Cheltenham (2m, good) and over this C&D (good; has also won on soft here); could have a part to play if returning at top of his game.

Recorded an 8l success in Haydock handicap (2m, soft) on second attempt over fences; below that form in 2m4f Grade 2 there latest but should have more to offer back down in trip/class; remains of interest.

10yo who has been better than ever the last twice with wins at Cheltenham (2m4f, heavy/soft), latest in the Plate at the Festival when he went clear before appearing to idle close home; a 6lb rise for last time certainly isn't harsh and he's run well on the Mildmay course here; respected.

Finished an honourable third in this race (soft) last year; had a fair stab at his first run beyond 2m5f when fourth at Aintree next time (3m1f, good to soft) but was a non-stayer over 3m2f at Newbury in December and has since confirmed that 2m4f is his trip when coming clear quite readily over C&D (heavy) on New Year's Day; 4lb higher than 12 months ago but he could now be an improved performer.

Gifted the race here last month when Amarillo Sky fell two from home; modest fourth against less exposed rivals at Cheltenham later in January; others have more left up their sleeve.

Won a three-runner handicap chase from out of the weights at Fontwell (2m2f, good) but when effectively only 2lb higher back there a week later he was the first beaten; that run may have come too soon and if better for a longer break he should be involved.

Form & Verdict

Form dipped last time but has a solid record otherwise for current stable and could well bounce back; ties in with Amarillo Sky on Chepstow running in November and won over C&D (good to soft) next time.

When a 23l third at Newbury (2m, soft) two starts ago he was behind two highly progressive rivals and he continues to drop down the weights, but positive performances have been scarce this season and he was tailed off at Sandown (1m7f, soft) last time.

Saw off Dinoblue to land this race off 8lb lower on soft 12 months ago; below par when in the frame at Listed/Grade 2 level in her three outings this season but last year's winning form has been consistently advertised by the runner-up and this mare would be a danger to all if recapturing that level.

Beating Dinoblue in the Grand Annual Chase at Cheltenham last March, form consistently advertised by the runner-up; made a bad mistake when last of four finishers on seasonal debut in 2m4f Clonmel event won by Allegorie De Vassy; weakened from three out when third behind the brilliant El Fabiolo in the Hilly Way at Cork; well suited by these race conditions.
