Form & Verdict

Easily made all in four-runner Group 3 Chester Vase (1m4f, soft) before finishing fifth of 17 in the Derby (1m4f, good); possibly deserves extra credit for his Epsom performance as he used up early energy in order to lead; this comes just 13 days after that hard race but he holds leading form claims and this front-runner may have a tactical advantage in today's small field; unraced on fast ground; no cheekpieces today (wore them at Epsom).

Front-running Ballydoyle colt who held on narrowly from wayward Grand Alliance in the King Edward VII Stakes at this meeting last year (1m4f, good to firm; final 3yo start), following his fifth-place finish in the Derby; may still have more to offer and looks interesting back here with Chester reappearance (third in the Ormonde; seemed to need the run) under his belt.

Form & Verdict

Made his debut in December and progressed swiftly, going close in Epsom Listed race (1m2f, good) in April; well-beaten 11th of 17 at 40-1 in the Derby (1m4f, good) 13 days ago but, despite having run well at Epsom previously, he didn't look comfortable when running downhill and made some headway in the straight; retains potential and not written off in first-time visor.

Quirky sort whose best effort came with clearcut Group 3 win at Newbury (1m4f, soft) in April, despite again hanging badly left in latter stages; no show in Group 2 at Royal Ascot (1m4f, good to firm; ran well with the same conditions there one year earlier) on his only run since; Ryan Moore rides him for the first time; major work to do even on best form.

Quirky sort who might have collared Changingoftheguard in the King Edward VII over C&D 12 months ago had he kept a true line; regained the winning thread in Group 3 at Newbury (1m4f, soft) on sole outing this term, despite again hanging badly left in latter stages; this is a harder task.

Had his quirks last term (gelded before final start; wore headgear last four) and going very close in the King Edward VII at Royal Ascot (1m4f) remains clearly his highest rating; first start on softer than good was his respectable third to Max Vega in Group 3 over C&D (heavy) last October; even peak form may not be good enough.

Form & Verdict

Promising third on sole 2yo run (1m, heavy) and made winning return at Newcastle (1m2f, AW) in April; close third of six in Goodwood Listed race (1m3f, soft) last month and, although improvement is needed, he's lightly raced and is open to further progress for last year's winning trainer.

Form & Verdict

Beaten in Listed and Group 2 races the last twice and others probably have more potential; however, he was rallying in the final furlong when a near-8l fourth of eight to subsequent Derby winner Desert Crown in the Dante at York (1m2f, good) and it's possible he'll improve again for the step up to 1m4f (his dam won over this trip); not ruled out.

Won at York (1m4f) in July; below that form in two runs since but can't be dismissed in this scenario; landed a notable AW conditions race (1m) in March 2022 and had a higher mark at the time (peaked at 102).

Contested Group races last May-July; way down the weights when winning at York (good) this July on his first go at 1m4f for 13 months, coming to the fore late on; back up 4lb to this mark when never dangerous at Ebor meeting there four weeks ago, but not beaten far; needs another step back towards his initial 2022 form but he's one to consider.

Form & Verdict

Off the mark at the fifth attempt in Pontefract maiden (1m2f, soft) in April prior to well-beaten third behind Changingoftheguard in the Chester Vase (1m4f, soft); better effort when staying-on third to Ottoman Fleet in Newmarket Listed race (1m2f, good to firm) last time and he's worth another go at 1m4f, but the need for improvement is obvious and others are preferred.

An improved performer this season; often held up and coming from last of four worked out nicely in 1m2f Listed raced at Sandown on latest outing; showed career-best form in that win, so he is capable of a bold show if the cards fall right again.
