Form & Verdict

Won the 1m5f Group 3 on this card 12 months ago; gave 3lb (now it's the other way round) when beaten nearly 2l by Living Legend in Group 2 at Newmarket in April; that was disappointing (he started at 1-4) and he's less than straightforward but he made a step back in the right direction when close third in Grade 1 at Belmont Park in the USA in May; that and his peak efforts all make him the clear form pick.

Best on good or firmer; 2021 victories included the Breeders' Cup Turf but there were mixed messages (he looked less than straightforward) in his abbreviated 2022 campaign; 317 days off before below form in his two starts this term but the latest was the 2m4f Gold Cup at Royal Ascot (7f further than he'd gone before) and he showed enough, passing some fading rivals, to suggest he is still very much the one to beat over 2m at this much lower level.

Best on good or firmer; 2021 victories included Breeders' Cup Turf but there were mixed messages (he looked less than straightforward) in his abbreviated 2022 campaign; had clearly the best form going into Newbury Group 3 last month when he came only fourth, admittedly after 317 days off; usually stays on well and his dam won at up to 2m, but it's hard to be confident that this test (7f further than he's gone before) will see him back in the best light.

2021 victories included the Breeders' Cup Turf; while he looked less than straightforward in 2022, two of his placed efforts (Meydan and Belmont Park) last spring were among his best form and he ended that campaign with a Group 2 win over 1m4f at Newmarket in July; not one to trust implicitly but he again brings clearly the best form.

Form & Verdict

Climbed to new heights this January-April, most notably when he defeated long odds-on Yibir in Group 2 Jockey Club at Newmarket (1m4f, good); heavy defeats since in the Coronation Cup at Epsom and Hardwicke at Royal Ascot, when very slowly away on first occasion and missing the break on second; yard is a regular winner of this race and in 2019 and 2021 it was with candidates who had also won the Jockey Club and run moderately in the Hardwicke.

Runner-up in a major 1m6f handicap at this meeting last year; back to form at Meydan early this year and when fourth of 11 in 1m4f handicap at York on latest outing; wore cheekpieces on last four outings; needs better.

Won weak 1m4f Group 2 at Meydan on reappearance, able to dictate from the back straight; placed in this race last year and in a Group 2 on the other Newmarket course this May on latest outing, both behind a much shorter-priced stablemate and the same fate seems to await him today.

Form & Verdict

Absent ten months before winning a four-runner Listed race at Ascot (1m, good to firm) in April, back to his best; work to do on that form, however, and he has since been well below that level in the Lockinge at Newbury (admittedly Group 1, at 40-1) and Listed event at Royal Ascot; upped to 1m2f in the latter and faces another step up in trip today; unconvincing.

Possibly unsuited by soft ground on sole run last term; beat Sir Busker by a neck in 1m Listed event at Ascot on reappearance, adding to his 2020 Royal Lodge win and taking form figures in British races on good/firmer to 331111; may improve further granted such conditions.

Form & Verdict

Lightly raced 6yo; peak form came from the front in two handicaps (1m2f and 1m4f) in June 2020; two runs in 1m2f Listed races this term were respectable, but this race very much demands a career best.

Smart earlier in his career (including Listed placed); met trouble at a crucial stage when seventh (Teumessias Fox fifth) of 13 in 1m2f Newcastle handicap on his recent AW debut after another long absence, showing enough to suggest a good chunk of his ability remains; fine at 1m4f; no surprise were he to go well.

Form & Verdict

Royal Ascot 2021 is the only blip in his nine-race career; while he's been put in his place on last two starts by Bay Bridge at Sandown and Broome in the Harwicke at Royal Ascot, he beat the rest in those races and appeared to stay 1m4f when upped in trip with first-time cheekpieces in the latter; should be bang there once again.

Has come up well short on his three attempts in Group 1 races; however, 1m4f appeared to stretch him in the Dubai Sheema Classic in March last time, when he ran well for a very long way, and he looked better than ever when easily winning a Group 3 in Saudi Arabia (10.5f, good to firm) in February; not ruled out now back down in trip.
