Form & Verdict

Improving colt who has already beaten today's two rivals, as he had Silver Knott behind when scoring at Newbury on second start (form has worked out well) then gamely got the better of Indestructible in the Acomb at York; those two wins came over 7f on good ground; strongly respected.

Front-runner/races prominently; acts on soft; flopped in the Prix Jean Prat when last seen, when the race possibly came too soon after his second to Paddington at Royal Ascot; progressive otherwise and may bounce back but he won a substandard edition of the 2,000 Guineas, with the form having largely worked out disappointingly.

Races prominently and can make the running; can battle too, as he showed when taking care of Indestructible in the Acomb at York and the Champagne on soft ground at Doncaster, before holding on by a head from Royal Scotsman in the Group 1 Dewhurst here on good (unraced on firmer); mishap leaving the stalls at Newbury two weeks ago prevented any assessment of his progress from two to three, but he was one of the top 2yos and may well stay 1m.

Form & Verdict

Irish colt who won well at Windsor (6f, good to firm) on second outing, then finished only half a length behind Chaldean in the Acomb at York (7f, good; pair clear) where he briefly looked the likely winner before his tenacious rival rallied; the rematch looks a tight call.

Versatile ground-wise; campaigned in Group 1 races since his Craven win, most recently fourth in the Prix Jean Prat dropped back to 7f with cheekpieces applied; has a progressive record when racing below the top level and looks interesting back down in grade.

With Michael O'Callaghan as 2yo but raced mostly in Britain, winning a Windsor novice (good to firm) before runner-up to Chaldean in two 7f Group races; had wind surgery before debut for new yard in the Craven over C&D (good) 16 days ago, failing to settle but soon front rank and keeping on well to win; that was improved form but today's rivals demand so much more.

Form & Verdict

Not far behind Chaldean, who had the benefit of a run, at Newbury on debut; couple of 7f wins since, latest in the Solario at Sandown (7f, good) where he strode clear in the closing stages for an emphatic win; quickly developing into a smart colt and holds leading claims on latest performance.

First four races as 2yo were at 7f, last two 1m; soft ground seemingly against him behind Chaldean at Doncaster; won Group 3s at Sandown and Newmarket either side, latter by a neck from Epictetus who went on to be second to Auguste Rodin at Doncaster; this one's top-level assignment came at the Breeders' Cup (1m, firm) in USA where he couldn't have gone closer, against the O'Brien-trained Victoria Road (reported last month to be going for French Guineas); not quite the star quality of some of these, therefore, but he's battle-hardened and has shown he stays 1m.
