Form & Verdict

4-4 last season and continued his excellent progress with an impressive success in the Brigadier Gerard at Sandown on reappearance, looking nailed on for Group 1 honours at some stage; beaten favourite in the Prince of Wales's Stakes (second) and Eclipse (below-par fifth) but good to firm ground perhaps wasn't ideal for either and a steady pace certainly didn't help in the former; his turf wins were on good/good to soft; goes well fresh and, back from 105-day layoff, could well resume his improvement granted suitable going; one of the main players.

Last six starts have been at Group 1 level, including a win in the Qipco Champion Stakes at Ascot (1m2f, good to soft) last October; solid efforts in his first two outings after returning in the spring, but off 80 days since finishing fifth of six in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot (1m2f, good); favoured by the race conditions and has winning form on AW (Tapeta), but has never attempted this far before.

1l second in this race last year (good to firm; 10-11 favourite) when caught out by a fine front-running ride on the winner; beat Adayar and My Prospero to win the Champion Stakes over C&D (good to soft) last October and he had to wait for a clear run when close second to Luxembourg in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh (10.5f, good) last month; key player.

Form & Verdict

Below-par fifth in this race last year, racing freely, but the run possibly came too soon after his respectable fourth in a heavy-ground Arc 13 days earlier; otherwise a top-class 3yo in 2021, becoming the first horse since Galileo to win the Derby and King George; missed this summer's targets due to a respiratory infection, then made his reappearance last month at Doncaster (1m2f, good to soft) where he beat two vastly inferior rivals but scored in a manner that suggests he has lost none of his class; fresher than 12 months ago and looks the biggest danger to Baaeed.

Won the Derby (1m4f, good to soft) and King George (1m4f, good to firm) in summer 2021; has not quite hit the same form over 1m2f in his last five starts (better form last autumn than this season) but still brings much the strongest form claims today.

Has raced only five times since winning the Derby (1m4f, good to soft) and King George (here; 1m4f, good to firm) in summer 2021; close second to Bay Bridge in the Champion Stakes over C&D (good to soft) last October on second start back from an absence and reappeared with comfortable win in the Group 3 Gordon Richards Stakes at Newmarket (1m2f, soft) last month; there can be optimism he is as good as ever and another Group 1 win may well be imminent.

Form & Verdict

Smart 3yo colt who has a very solid record this season, most recently making all and holding on for a half-length success in the Prix Eugene Adam at Saint-Cloud (upped to 1m2f, good to soft) three months ago; very close third in the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot (sole Group 1 attempt) the time before; overall record is 3-5 and he could well have plenty more to offer; a long way behind star stablemate Baaeed on the figures but looks likely to perform with credit and pick up some good prize-money.

Hasn't made the expected further progress this season, though the bare form is still respectable, second in York Group 2 (dropped back from Group 1 level) most recently; close third in the 2022 Champion Stakes the last time he raced on softer than good; now returns to Listed grade for first time since winning last year's Heron Stakes; clear top on ratings.

Form & Verdict

Outstanding colt who has scaled fantastic heights in a relatively short space of time, having made his debut just 16 months ago; ended last season with a success in the QEII on this card and continued to dominate the 1m division this term with comfortable wins in the Lockinge, Queen Anne and Sussex; took his form to the next level with a dazzling display in the International at York last time, proving well suited by the step up to 1m2f and recording an RPR of 138 which puts him not far off Frankel territory; acts on good to firm and good to soft, unraced on soft/heavy; just like Frankel ten years ago, he looks set to stay unbeaten with a victorious Champion Stakes swansong.

Ballydoyle colt who impressed in the spring, then didn't quite live up to expectations when second favourite for the Derby (finished only sixth); subsequently not disgraced in the Belmont Derby, Saratoga Derby or Irish Champion Stakes; however, he's now 0-6 at Group/Grade 1 level and is highly unlikely to make it seventh time lucky in this field.

Beaten favourite in Group 3 on Kempton AW six weeks ago, running below his turf form; second in this contest 12 months ago, albeit helped by the two market leaders failing to show their best; finished 9l behind stablemate Baaeed in this year's International; will do well to repeat last year's silver medal; cheekpieces are added to usual tongue-tie.

Better than ever in international Group 1 races (over 1m2f) this year, winning twice in Australia (good/soft) then respectable third in Hong Kong; went close in the 2021 Champion Stakes but finished only sixth in same contest last year, taking record at Group level on home soil to 0-5.

Form & Verdict

Irish-trained 5yo who has been absent since finishing last in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh in May, a race he'd won narrowly in 2021; unplaced in a Group 3 on only other run this term; has major questions to answer on 2022 evidence and faces a very stiff task in this field to boot.

Off the mark in this sphere with a maiden hurdle success at Navan (form boosted since); 10l behind Fun Fun Fun in Grade 3 at Naas since; needs to step again to defy this mark but he's lightly raced over hurdles and he's rated 105 on the Flat so it would be no surprise if he can get involved.

Form & Verdict

Won the Vertem Futurity as a 2yo and Irish 2,000 Guineas as a 3yo; creditable 40-1 third in the 2021 Champion Stakes, though along with runner-up Dubai Honour was fortunate that the two market leaders failed to show their form; otherwise an inconsistent sort whose RPRs are prone to big swings; below best in both runs this term; unlikely to repeat last year's placed effort.

Form & Verdict

Has form figures of 1431 since being gelded, the latest performance in Listed grade at Ayr (1m2f, good) where he was chased home by a couple of 9yos but ran out an impressive winner; faces a much higher standard of competition in this race and, while he's open to further progress, will do extremely well to follow up; likely to be more at home back in Group 3 or Group 2.
