Form & Verdict

Didn't jump particularly well when winning at Market Rasen (3m, good to soft; following up his Wetherby win) and he sometimes overjumps, which proved costly next time at Sedgefield; on a good mark should he avoid any mishaps but this venue will test his technique.

Dour stayer who loves the mud; five chase wins include one here; reliable in these valuable staying chases without ever looking particularly well handicapped, and he was beaten 24l into fourth in this last year when 3lb lower; having another solid season but hard to believe he's any better now than 12 months ago; first-time tongue-tie.

Goes well on soft/heavy; his three chase wins have been at up to 3m2f and his well-held fourth in last season's Classic Chase (favourite) and Midlands National (4m2f, soft) both saw a dip in his form; there can't be much doubt that he'll stay, though, given the way he kept on strongly for third to Malina Girl over the extended 3m3f at Cheltenham on latest start; needs to improve but he's a strong each-way candidate.

Goes well on soft/heavy; won twice last season and resumed with a win at Carlisle (up 7lb since) one month ago, all at 3m to nearly 3m2f; fourth in last season's Classic Chase (3m5f, heavy) and Midlands National (4m2f, soft) both saw a dip in his form but this progressive 7yo will surely prove his stamina in due course and needs plenty of respect.

Didn't appear that progressive last season in novice/maiden hurdles but he then signed off with a clearcut win at Wetherby (2m3f, good to soft); soon sent chasing and makes his handicap debut over a new distance; respected.

Comfortable winner of a novice hurdle last March (2m3f, good to soft) and was a clear second on seasonal/chase/handicap debut at Warwick (3m1f, good to soft) in November; took a backward step last time but has it in him to go well if responding positively to cheekpieces.

Came good over hurdles with comfortable novice win in March (2m3f, good to soft) and ran big race in defeat when clear second on last month's seasonal/chase/handicap debut at Warwick (3m1f, good to soft); has to take a 3lb rise on the chin but still makes significant appeal.

Much better than his current mark in the past but his only real bright spot during the last 12 months was a second at Uttoxeter in March; well behind Boughtbeforelunch on final appearance in May.

Much better than his current mark in the past but his only real bright spot in the last 14 months was a second at Uttoxeter (3m, good to soft) in March; may have needed the run at Warwick on his return last month but he finished a well-held third of six and needs to leave that form behind.

Hit the ground running last season with back-to-back handicap wins at about 3m (good/good to soft), the latest off only 2lb lower; lost his way a little afterwards but his record when fresh heightens interest.

Stuck to his guns when runner-up behind the favourite at Southwell (3m, good) in May but Warwick last time was disappointing as he can go well fresh and has form there; hard to win with at the best of times (3-36) and he was pulled up at Ludlow yesterday.

Form & Verdict

Has won four of his last six starts and gone unbeaten over fences in the last three at Ffos Las; never more impressive than when coming 10l clear at Ffos Las the final time but he's gone up 11lb for that win alone; has won on good to soft but he's particularly effective in the mud.

Not firing on all cylinders this season but rewarded persistent Sean Bowen ride when staying on well to exploit much reduced mark at Cartmel (3m1f, soft) two weeks ago; would appeal more on slower ground but remains well handicapped on older form; pulled up in early stages at Southwell on Thursday after saddle slipped.
