Form & Verdict

Ran twice in France in 2020; easy winner of a Tramore maiden hurdle early last year; lost out by only a neck to the talented Jonbon in a Grade 1 contest at Aintree; confirmed that ability when dropped in class at Punchestown; never off the bridle on chasing debut at Fairyhouse, but jumping was a little erratic; will need to be more assured, every chance he will be.

Can make mistakes and was pulled up after bad early error in last month's Champion Chase; however, he was 6-6 over fences previously, including a convincing defeat of Jonbon in the 2023 Arkle (2m, soft); has won on good to yielding (unraced on good); the one to beat granted a clear round.

Versatile ground-wise; not always a foot-perfect jumper but has a 100% completion record and plenty of class; sole defeat for current yard came at the hands of Jonbon over hurdles in 2022; turned the tables in last year's Arkle over C&D and has made a smooth transition to open company this term, easily winning the Dublin Chase (another Grade 1) at Leopardstown most recently; error-free round isn't guaranteed but otherwise he has excellent claims, being a progressive horse who is 6-6 over fences and top rated in this field.

Form & Verdict

Won last season's Martin Pipe before an unaccountably bad Grade 1 run at Aintree; jumped well and made all to an easy win over 2m4f at Gowran on chasing debut; untroubled by the drop to 2m when beating subsequent Doncaster Grade 2 winner Tommy's Oscar at Cheltenham in November; now back down in trip again after a fairly tame third over 2m4f in the Drinmore.

Has form on soft but is ideally suited by faster; withdrawn from the Turners on this day last year due to unfavourable ground (soft); Irish 8yo who has impressive statistics, being 4-4 in British races over 2m/2m4f and 2-2 at Cheltenham, including a success in the Martin Pipe over hurdles at the 2022 Festival; solid performance in Kempton Grade 2 on sole outing this season, following up his Aintree Grade 1 win last spring and taking chase record to 4-6; largely progressive throughout his career and commands major respect.

Irish horse who has been progressive through his career, including over hurdles; 3-5 as a novice chaser last season, culminating in Grade 1 success at Aintree when taking record in British races over 2m/2m4f to 3-3; looks ideally suited by good/good to soft ground; should make a big impact in open company this season and is very interesting on reappearance.

2021 Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner; only run last season was when down the field in the Champion Hurdle; made a smooth introduction to chasing when trouncing Top Bandit at Punchestown in December; cruised to a Naas win in a race that lacked depth; faces first serious task over fences but obviously a very strong candidate and likely market-leader.

Unbeaten in two bumpers and won his first two starts over hurdles, including a 2m Grade 2 event at Punchestown by 19l; joint-favourite with Constitution Hill for the Supreme Novices, fell three out when travelling well; clinically abnormal when flopping at Punchestown; jumped notably well when winning unextended over C&D on chasing debut; exciting prospect.

Second to Vauban in three juvenile hurdle Grade 1s last season; switched to fences after odds-on defeat at Naas on seasonal debut; took advantage of 8lb concession from Saint Roi at Navan, jumping well; made a critical mistake three out when third behind Saint Roi and Visionarian here at Christmas; tongue-tie (worn once in France) and first-time cheekpieces now.

Versatile ground-wise; creditable second behind highly notable rivals at Naas (Grade 3) and Cork (Grade 2) since returned to chasing; filled same position in the Triumph Hurdle here two years ago; campaigned mostly at about 2m but pedigree suggests this return to 2m4f is well worth exploring and, being the youngest horse in the field, he has the potential to rate higher still; interesting contender.

Classy novice chaser last winter, winning a Grade 1 at Leopardstown (2m1f, yielding) and a close second of five in the big 2m4f novice at this meeting; has not had quite the same edge this season, in Graded races and handicaps, and was never able to get into a rhythm with his jumping when no real threat behind Unexpected Party in the Grand Annual at Cheltenham (2m, soft); has work to do on that form.

Winner of the County Hurdle at this meeting in 2020 and Grade 1-winning novice chaser last season; has been operating below that level this term but there was some encouragement when fourth of 11 on his 2m1f Fairyhouse handicap chase debut in January and his effort in a Grade 1 since can probably be ignored; good chance this has been the plan all along.
