Form & Verdict

Exciting front-running novice last term, winning his last three starts including Grade 1 victory at Aintree where he lowered the colours of Edwardstone; tired and beaten when unseating at the last at Naas on his return; tame effort when fourth to Edwardstone in the Tingle Creek; made mistakes and seemed out of sorts in the race won by Blue Lord at Christmas.

Beat Edwardstone at Aintree as a novice chaser but has shown comparable form only twice since, namely when winning last season's Dublin Chase and, arguably, when second of three finishers behind Captain Guinness in the Champion Chase; had previously finished behind Dinoblue in two Leopardstown clashes this season.

Often a front-runner; decisively beat Edwardstone at Aintree (good to soft) as a novice chaser but has shown comparable form only once since, namely when winning last season's Dublin Chase (yielding); well-held fourth to stablemate El Fabiolo in the latest edition of that Leopardstown race and, on balance, can be opposed.

Form & Verdict

4-5 over fences as a novice last term including C&D success in Arkle and in Grade 1 Punchestown event; only defeat was when third to Edwardstone in Arkle at Cheltenham; not much in reserve when winning 2m4f Clonmel Oil Chase on reappearance; much more emphatic when dropped in trip in C&D Grade 1 at Christmas; head and shoulders above these rivals.

Good 6-10 record over fences; career-best when winning 2m1f Grade 1 at Leopardstown last Christmas; overturned at long odds-on by stablemate Gentleman de Mee at Dublin Racing Festival; never going well in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham and made little impact in third behind stablemate Energumene when dropped in trip here at the festival.

Turned over at short odds in the Dublin Chase most recently but could well bounce back from that defeat; progressive otherwise and he was impressive at Leopardstown (2m1f, yielding) the time before, recording a third Grade 1 win; confirmed his stamina for 2m4f with Grade 2 win at Clonmel (soft to heavy) in November and remains particularly unexposed at this trip; respectable third in the Arkle at this meeting last year; major player.

Form & Verdict

Winner of 17 races, including six over fences; satisfactory form when placed in Grade 1 chases at Aintree and Sandown last April; three hurdle runs this term; odds-on for Listed win at Kempton, then ran respectably at Wincanton when bidding for a fourth win in the Elite Hurdle; remote last of four behind Constitution Hill in the Christmas Hurdle.

Multiple winner down the years; turns 12 imminently and his two results this season, including behind Rubaud when bidding for a third success in Kempton Listed event in October, suggest he's perhaps finally on the wane; well held in this contest in 2022.

High-class hurdler/chaser who has been an excellent servant to connections over the years and is bidding to win this race for the third season running; seemed to race too freely in first-time cheekpieces (now removed) in Aintree Hurdle in April but faced a tough assignment there anyway and ought to be very hard to beat here.

Form & Verdict

Progressive handicapper last season, winning twice at Fairyhouse before a career-best when chasing home Chacun Pour Soi in this race; out of his depth in the Tingle Creek after a prep run on the Flat; beaten 9l when bidding for a repeat win in a valuable Fairyhouse handicap; big run possible, bearing in mind last year's spirited display.

Form & Verdict

Smart handicap hurdler, narrowly beaten in last season's Coral Cup and also second in a strong 2m3f contest at the Punchestown festival; won a three-year-old chase at Auteuil in 2019; had first run over fences since then as 66-1 outsider of six in the John Durkan Memorial; found that much too demanding, faces a similar challenge now.

Has proved a natural jumper of fences and he put up a mammoth display when narrowly failing to give 4lb to Corach Rambler in the Ultima last March; gave Galopin Des Champs and Bravemansgame a nasty shock in a 3m Punchestown Grade 1 (yielding) next time and had the former nearly 2l away in third when winning there in November; had to play second fiddle to a reinvigorated Galopin Des Champs at Leopardstown next time but has had wind surgery since and this reliable stayer has a sporting chance of revenge over the longest trip he's tackled.
