Form & Verdict

Runner-up on hurdle debut at Newton Abbot (2m1f, good) last October then went one better at Kempton (2m, good to soft), narrowly beating Spirit D'Aunou; it was a Grade 2 in which he was soundly beaten at Chepstow (2m, soft) over Christmas and he has strong claims now back down in grade.

Won on debut at Ffos Las (2m, good) last October and solid second of three at Huntingdon (2m, good) in December when conceding 7lb to the winner Spirit D'Aunou; holds leading form claims in this line-up.

Lightly raced 5yo who made it three wins from his last four starts when catching Rare Middleton in the final strides at Cheltenham (2m1f, good) last month; he's clearly progressive and is on the shortlist up 6lb.

Wore a first-time tongue-tie when winning at Lingfield (2m, good to soft) in December on second handicap start; failed to back up that run at Exeter (2m2f) but this easier track could benefit him.

Form & Verdict

Fair third of five on debut at Kelso (2m, heavy) in January then soundly beaten fourth of six at Wetherby (2m, good) three weeks ago; things may click at some point but he needs improvement if he's to win this.

Kept on to justify favouritism at Hexham (2m4f, heavy; from a 5lb lower mark) in November; took a nasty tumble at Ayr next time, and has broadly failed to get the momentum going since, pulling up (over 3m) latest; something to prove confidence-wise in newly applied cheekpieces.

Kept on to win at Hexham (2m4f, heavy) in November on second handicap start; looked to be staying on from the rear when slipping up before two out here (extended 2m4f) next time and showed he's still in form when stepped up to 3m at Wetherby (soft) last time; less exposed than a lot of these; considered.

Kept on to win at Hexham (2m4f, heavy) in November on second handicap start and, although he still had plenty to do, he was making headway when slipping up before two out at Ayr (2m4f, heavy) last time; today's step up in trip could be right up his street and he's firmly in calculations.

Form & Verdict

Kicked before the start on his debut in a bumper at Ayr (2m, soft) last month and he's open to improvement on this second outing; however, he was down the field at 18-1 and a big step forward is needed.

Placed in a bumper; modest efforts at about 2m over hurdles and hung left over C&D (heavy) when fourth on his handicap debut; shaped better in a void race back here latest; no surprise if he takes a step up on that.

Beaten 24l when second of eight on debut in a bumper at Exeter (2m, heavy) on New Year's Day and it's hard to quantify the strength of that form; however, she was sent off at just 7-2 and there was certainly a bit of promise in that performance; could go well on first hurdle start.

Verdict

Previous winners JUPITER ALLEN and Tintintin are fairly closely matched on formlines through Spirit D’Aunou and narrow preference is for the Jane Williams-trained Kempton winner Jupiter Allen, who drops back down in grade having found a Grade 2 too much at Chepstow over Christmas. Bumper runner-up Grumpy Rosie is not ruled out on her hurdle debut.[Ben Hutton]
