Form & Verdict

Won two minor bumpers last summer and left those efforts a country mile behind when stylishly accounting for Fact To File at Leopardstown's Dublin Racing Festival (Grade 2, yielding), since when he has been snapped up by the runner-up's owner JP McManus; his superior speed appeared to win him the day then and this race demands other qualities, but he's a strong candidate for sure.

Maiden point winner who smacked of a strong stayer when winning a 2m4f soft-ground bumper at Leopardstown over Christmas and tactical speed appeared to be exposed by A Dream To Share back at 2m there last month, though he was edging closer to the winner late on; not without hope of gaining his revenge should this place a greater emphasis on stamina, and that's likely; a must for the shortlist.

Has Festival winners in the family, his half-brother Sky Pirate having won a Grand Annual; comfortably won his point and wasn't overly pressed to justify odds-on favouritism on soft ground at Plumpton with subsequent winners trailing in his wake; commands respect, for all that his top trainer has saddled 12 beaten horses in this race with Al Ferof the closest he's come when runner-up in 2010.

A staying chaser in the making and yet he was quick enough to finish third in last season's Champion Bumper; wasn't seen to best effect here in November in his only defeat over hurdles and has since secured Grade 1 honours in Newbury's Challow Hurdle (2m4f, soft), in which he sauntered to the front before idling on the run-in; no winner of that race has ever followed up at the Festival - including the mighty Denman - but there's lots to warm to otherwise with today's stamina test likely to be right up his ally.

Form & Verdict

Won his point before changing hands for £350,000 here during this week last year; fluffed his lines when turned over at long odds-on at Down Royal in November, but he looked good at Fairyhouse (soft) when just over 3l in front of a hanging Chapeau De Soleil and this has been the main target ever since; has the potential to settle better than last time and he seems held in high regard by an owner/trainer combination that had the second last year and the third three seasons back.

Has raced mainly on soft/heavy; disappointing when only 10-1 in the 2023 Champion Bumper; won easily at Fairyhouse (2m7f) on second hurdles start and has posted good efforts, including in Grade 2 behind subsequent Supreme winner Slade Steel, at Navan (2m4f/2m) since; possibilities provided he remains in form back at Cheltenham.

Form & Verdict

Bought for £125,000 after a successful debut at Market Rasen when trained by Don Cantillon; useful prospect after supplementing that success in a Listed event here (soft) but the form looks well short of the standard required for this; only Cue Card has won this as a 4yo since 1995.

Probably not seen to best effect on soft ground in a Grade 2 at Kempton when beaten by a good horse, whom he was closer to the time before (another Grade 2 on good) and who has since performed okay in a Grade 1; expected to have a say off this mark on his handicap debut.

Good third in similar event at Doncaster (2m, good) four weeks ago, taking hurdles form figures to 113, and ties in closely with Lump Sum on that effort; acts on soft; major contender.

Won a Listed bumper (on soft) before coming up well short at the spring festivals; the form of his debut hurdle win at Hereford (through the second) gives him the beating of Lump Sum and the front two came clear when he followed up in gritty fashion at Taunton (2m, good to soft); entered in the Supreme.

Looked as though he might drop out of the picture before getting his second wind and running on well to prevail narrowly at Gowran (soft/heavy) in January, with the first two well clear; that doesn't look good enough, though.

Won a bumper on debut; struggled in last season's Cheltenham bumper; won a Cork maiden on second hurdles start; made a costly mistake three out in a novice event at Down Royal; possibly did not stay an extra half-mile when fourth at Gowran in his first handicap; merits respect.

Dead-heated for first in his point and entered plenty of notebooks when impressive 10l winner over 2m2f on heavy at Limerick; major reality check when well behind A Dream To Share at Leopardstown (yielding; 9-2) and although returning to deeper conditions can only help, he's still probably up against it.

Off the mark over hurdles in Thurles maiden (2m, heavy) last month and solid fourth of nine on subsequent handicap debut at Cork (2m3f, soft to heavy); the first-time hood could help him settle now up in trip and this 3m point winner has to be respected for the all-conquering Willie Mullins.

Form & Verdict

Another odds-on debut winner from this yard when prevailing by 3l at Fairyhouse (soft/heavy), where he settled better once sent to the front early on and was merely shaken up; has a good bit to find on the figures but there's no knocking a winning start and ten of this race's 30 winners had raced just the once, so inexperience is not to be frowned upon.

Decidedly in and out in his short career to date, running respectably but finding far less than the winner when third of 12 to Effernock Fizz at Fairyhouse (2m, heavy) three weeks ago; needs more, but he may not be fully exposed and a strongly run race would probably play to his strengths.

Clipped heels when pulled up (40-1 SP) for the County earlier this month; 4lb lower here and had some smart form behind Quai De Bourbon and Tullyhill previously this term; unlikely we've seen the best of him yet and this is a drop in grade; respected.

Disappointing in Tipperary Grade 3 last October and absent since; however, prior to that he won a big-field 4yo handicap at Listowel (2m, good to yielding) and that form reads well; also effective on soft ground; this unexposed sort retains potential for his top trainer and is not written off.
