Form & Verdict

Low-mileage 8yo; won bumpers and a novice hurdle in the mud; chasing on last six starts, with a good third of eight in handicap at Sandown (good to soft) on latest; should be competitive.

Form as recent as last May reads very well but he's been underwhelming in his six runs this November-March (best of those runs was three starts back) and others have more pressing claims.

Didn't run badly when third of five in first-time cheekpieces two starts ago but has been well below his best form this season and is untested beyond about 2m4f under rules; dips in grade today; no headgear this time.

Form & Verdict

Ridden by Lewis Dobb since July 2021; hat-trick on heavy/soft last winter and two good runs for minor honours from his four appearances this season, but he probably needs to find a bit extra in this line-up.

Better than the bare result when fourth of 13 at Aintree (2m, good; came from rear after early mistake) last week; that followed a good second at Warwick and suggests his current mark is still workable; has an impressive record (a win, a second and a third from three runs) at Ayr and should go well.

Hat-trick at about this trip last midwinter (on heavy/soft) but in the meantime has all too often looked weighted to his best off similar marks to today's; others higher up the list.

Form & Verdict

Veteran who isn't the force of old but he went very close at Ludlow three starts back and went one better in a four-runner race at Sandown on latest; going back up 3lb does not rule him out but he did not shine in either of his runs at this track, including on penultimate start.

Won off 1lb lower at Sandown (1m7f, good) in February and evidently retains significant ability as a 12yo but became very inconsistent last season and needs to bounce back quickly from a lacklustre effort two weeks ago.

Form & Verdict

Ready wins at Hereford and Chepstow (soft) on his first two chase starts; finished strongly but too late when second in handicap at Doncaster (good) on latest outing, shaping as if he retains plenty of potential.

Won his first two chase starts last winter (good to soft/soft) and this progressive 6yo was 1l ahead and looking the likeliest winner only to fall at the final fence at Ascot (2m1f, good) in November when last seen; a 3lb rise isn't harsh and it will be no surprise if he makes amends today.

Form & Verdict

Won a bumper on heavy but flopped on it three starts back; peak efforts on good to soft switched to fences this season, on last two occasions winning from the front in handicaps at Huntingdon and Stratford; took the latter by 17l, for which he's gone up 8lb since but the runner-up won his next race two weeks later and this progressive sort needs plenty of respect.

Sole run here was in a bumper (runner-up); something of a bumpy road since he was sent over fences last term but he's now won three of his seven chases and left his five rivals 25l and more behind in handicap at Wetherby (2m3f, heavy) four weeks ago, impressing with his jumping once he went on at the fifth; 11lb higher today (3lb out of the handicap) in a much better race but has to be considered given the extreme ease of that win.

Form & Verdict

3-3 over hurdles last term, at about 2m; very mixed fortunes in small fields over fences this season, with something of an upturn again when fourth of five finishers in Grade 3 novice handicap at Sandown (2m4f, soft) on latest start; needs better than that but the step back down in trip looks a positive and he has his tongue tied for first time.

Went the wrong way over fences last season after a promising start and had a (second) wind operation over the summer; might have needed the run when fifth of eight in handicap hurdle at Aintree four weeks ago; needs to step up markedly on that form to make an impact here but it's possible.

Novice chasing campaign went pear-shaped after a promising start; had a second wind surgery since last run; 3-3 over hurdles two seasons ago, looking talented, and is very interesting back in this sphere.
