0-3 last season; has shown some improvement with blinkers this term, winning a 1m3f novice event then second in 1m4f handicap, both at Kempton (AW); may have more to offer in the retained blinds.

Useful on Flat for the Gosdens; beat a dual subsequent winner in a maiden at Catterick (soft) and appeared to run just as well when penalised at Hereford (good to soft; runner-up); has further races in him and the 4yo allowance comes in handy; not discounted in first-time cheekpieces.

Fairly useful on Flat for the Gosdens; clear second over C&D on debut over hurdles, then went one better at Catterick (1m7f, soft) where he comfortably beat a subsequent dual scorer; should have more to offer.

Form & Verdict

Showed steady progress in three races at Goodwood last term, justifying favouritism the final time (1m1f, good to soft); looks the type to improve further and do well in handicaps this year.

Form & Verdict

Creditable second in Doncaster maiden (1m2f, heavy; favourite) on seasonal debut, posting another placed effort; this thrice-raced colt may well start to progress now handicapping; respected.

Made it tenth-time lucky when narrowly beating a subsequent winner in a maiden here (7f) last time; more needed back in a handicap, but he finished second from 2lb higher on turf last summer and stepping back up another furlong shouldn't be an issue; each-way claims.

Form & Verdict

Made the frame in his two turf races last year, on good to soft on second occasion, and it's best to forgive his AW flop afterwards (had an abnormal scope post-race); gelded since; looks open to improvement on handicap debut; interesting.

Middle distance winner for Ralph Beckett; acts on good ground and yet to be tested on a much softer surface; best watched on his stable debut.

Won over C&D (good) in July on third handicap start and solid efforts at Catterick and Newbury the next twice; every chance he'll be thereabouts.

Well-bred 3yo who was off the mark when justifying favouritism in a Haydock handicap (11.6f, good) on his sixth attempt; good second of six when 5-6 at Catterick (1m4f, good) later in July but needs to find extra.

Verdict

With the forecast testing ground no apparent issue, RIBAL could well build on his Doncaster reappearance effort and go one better. Fellow handicap debutants Feud (narrow second choice) and Rathgar are interesting, while Maasai Mara is hard to dismiss in the retained blinkers.[Steve Boow]
