Form & Verdict

Highly talented hurdler who finished fourth off topweight in the Martin Pipe Handicap at the Cheltenham Festival (2m4f, soft) in March; didn't jump with fluency on his chase debut at Newton Abbot (2m5f, heavy) last month but still ran well to finish a close second of three; the first-time cheekpieces may help his jumping, and this looks a good opportunity.

Unable to threaten over 2m5f/2m4f this spring at the big Cheltenham and Aintree meetings but he's kept on well each time and is well worth another crack at a staying trip; edging down the weights and could have a part to play if handling the ground (effective on good to soft, unraced on good).

Mixed fortunes over fences this season and needs to jump better than in the Coral Cup last month when back over hurdles; however, in the circumstances (particularly a very bad mid-race blunder) he did pretty well to finish 13th and he's now 5lb lower than when a good fourth in the Martin Pipe (2m4f, soft) last March; ran a big race on sole visit here; cheekpieces (worn on last three starts) are left off; capable of playing a leading role.

Fourth in the Martin Pipe here (2m4f, soft) one year ago off 3lb higher; his jumping has not been so convincing switched to fences this term but he's still looked in form; strong-travelling sort who should get into serious contention on this return to hurdling.

Form & Verdict

On hurdle form he has plenty to find with Might I; however, he was still useful in that sphere (on good and soft going) and it's possible he'll improve for the switch to fences; stable is in fine form and, with Might I having not jumped well on last month's chase debut, he's not without hope today.

Won a match over C&D last November on his second chase start and runner-up at Wincanton (2m4f) in January; that form was not reproduced in his three runs this spring (C&D latest) but circumstances were not ideal; bit to prove returning from a break but case can be made.

Won a match over C&D in November on his second chase start and then runner-up at Wincanton (2m4f); the saddle slipped when tried in a hood at Plumpton and soft ground counted against when back over hurdles the last time; should give his running now but being 6lb out of the weights hurts his chances.
